Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-04-17 Cartmanland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First off, I had to log in, but my previous edits are under my IP 69.xxx... (i forget the rest of the numbers).

I'm new to wikipedia, so please excuse any mistakes I'm making.

In Cartmanland (an episode of SOUTH PARK), I added a trivial bit of information (the plot point error). Someone keeps deleting it on me without giving any reason. I keep adding it back, but I think at this point, I should ask for help.

I hope I'm doing this right. I hope someone is listening. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jbm867 (talkcontribs) Fasten

[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Jbm867 16:54, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
... Cartmanland
Who's involved?
... Myself and IP user 64.12.117.9. To a lesser extent, user 205.188.116.131
What's going on?
... I added trivial information and he or she keeps deleting it without reason.
What would you like to change about that?
... Stop deleting it or give me a valid reason why it should be deleted.
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
... I'd prefer contacting me here on wikipedia.
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?
No thanks. I'm too new/uneducated at this wikipedia stuff to be a mediator.
This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.

[edit] Mediator response

Hi Jbm867, it appears that the edit you speak of is the main edit happening on Cartmanland [1] [2] about the "plot hole".

Unfortunately, the users that are reverting your edit will be difficult to contact since they are AOL users, so it will be difficult to contact them to encourage their participation in mediation. AOL users edit wikipedia coming from AOL's proxy servers, and as you can see, repeated requests to get the attention of these users have failed in the past [3] [4] [5]. However, let's put ourselves in their shoes. Since the edit you're adding is a plot hole that you've recognized in the episode, you can understand if other users might either not agree with you or try to keep the article more descriptive. In short, I'm not sure this merits mediation (since I don't know how to get in touch with the others involved) and it might be solved by simply trying different language in your edit that might be more acceptable to these users. -- Joebeone (Talk) 01:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Evidence

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

[edit] Compromise offers

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.
