[edit] Request Information

Request made by: CeeGee 21:17, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
Template:Infobox shopping center that I created and used in some articles of shopping malls in Istanbul
Who's involved?
User:Madchester
What's going on?
Initially I improved and extended the Template:Infobox shopping mall that was created by User:Madchester and referenced it in articles of some shopping malls in Istanbul. The creater reverted my edits in the template so that I could not use it fully. Then, I created a template:Infobox shopping center to use in the same articles. However, he edited the articles to use the insufficient infobox shopping mall. I warned him not the edit the articles since I am using now my own infobox. He went further and deleted my template and reverted the articles again. I warned him once again and asked an explaination. Ignoring my appeal, he vandalised my recreated infox and reverted my edits. See his talk page.
What would you like to change about that?
Since the infobox he wants to use is insufficient, he should restore the original state of my edits.
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
by my e-mail
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?
This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.
Thank you, not.

[edit] Mediator response

Madchester deleted {{Infobox shopping center}} without any discussion, and redundancy doesn't appear on The criteria for speedy deletion. The template is more extensive, however, than {{Infobox shopping mall}}. I would suggest merging the two templates with the content of the deleted template. Sceptre (Talk) 19:39, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Evidence

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

[edit] Template:Infobox shopping mall

Hi, I intented to improve and extend the template:Infobox shopping mall you had created. However, I see that you do not like it. No problem. The articles of the shopping malls in Istanbul require more data, so I create another infobox for use in that articles. I ask you kindly not to revert the related articles in Istanbul. CeeGee 17:55, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

I already reverted your edits and changed the link to another infobox. Please leave them so as they are. I will correct my infobox later on, since the problems are not so fatal. CeeGee 18:07, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I asked you not to reedit the articles of shopping malls in Istanbul regarding the infobox which is incomplete. You can do it only when you improve and extend it. By doing so, you are deleting valuable info I added. Please stop it! CeeGee 20:15, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that you also deleted the infobox shopping center I created. Why? It is not superfluous at this moment as you say. The infobox shopping mall is but insufficient. CeeGee 20:21, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Would you please tell me what authorize you to delete the template shopping center which is used by some articles? CeeGee 20:35, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
You are very poor, because you can not explain what you are doing. Instead you are using your admin power to cover your incompetence.CeeGee 21:07, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] infobox shopping mall

There's currently some formatting problems (spacing, image sizing, etc.) with the new template, so I'm going to revert them to the older (and working) template for the time being, until the appropriate fixes can be made. I'll be re-adding your new parameters when i can get those fixes done.

Cheers, --Madchester 18:03, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

And just a suggestion, you shouldn't be adding the mall addresses into the article in such a manner. Remember, Wikipedia isn't like the Yellow Pages or some advertisement. See WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, Point 7. --Madchester 18:06, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm not "hating" on your changes or anything. While the chnanges look great for the new Istanbul mall articles that you've created, they've created serious formatting problems to existing mall articles containing the infoboxes. In Wikipedia, it's important that templates can serve all the articles that they are used in. So please let me make the approrpiate fixes to the existing infobox to incorproate your new parameters. I'm making sure that your new parameters will work across all mall and shopping centre articles, period. Don't create a new template/infobox altogther, since it is completely superfluous. --Madchester 18:14, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Once again, please do not create a 2nd template infobox for shopping malls/centres, when there is already an existing template for doing so. As I stated previously, infoboxes should function such that all articles can utilize them. They aren't designed, just to be tailored to the articles that you created on your own. There's several problems with your template:

  • Spacing and image formatting problems... (as earlier indicated by User:Getcrunk [1]
  • The retail floor space guidelines are too rigid and limited in SI units (m²). I've been to shopping malls in Califronia that combined indoor and outdoor retail areas. Also, places like the United States only usse sq. feet when describing floor area.
  • Number of parking spaces available is misleading. For example, many shopping malls in East Asia lack parking spaces, since they are primarily served by mass public transit. However, it can still serve many millions of customers a year.
  • Likewise, not all shopping malls contain a supermarket or market. Again, you have to take global retail considerations into account.

Disrupting Wikipedia just to make a point (i.e., creating a personalized template) is not tolerated and can warrant a block, per WP: Blocking policy - Disrpution. Nor is accusing someone of vandalism ([2], [3], etc.), when I'm trying to improve the existing template, with some of the parameters that you brought up. I would recommend working towards consenus on the existing template. Cheers, --Madchester 21:21, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
