[edit] Request for cabal mediation
[edit] Request Information
- Request made by: JesseG 05:32, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Where is the issue taking place?
- I am having a problem with a user by the name of Martyman. There's a process named "OrphanBot" had with an image I had uploaded to Wikipedia several months ago. There were apparently copyright problems with the image, but when I went to review the image to see exactly what the problem was the image had been deleted. I asked Carnildo about this and he said that CLW had deleted the image, so I then went and requested that CLW give me time in the future to determine if an image has a problem before deleting it.
I don't have a problem with deletion of images if it's determined that they shouldn't be on here in the first place. I understand the principle of copyright and try to the best of my ability to abide by them. I feel that Martyman came on in spoiling for a fight, and that he has been nothing but arrogant and hostile towards me.
- Who's involved?
- Myself and User:Martyman
- What's going on?
- Here is a copy of the latest material on my talk page.
Question
Are you certain about "OrphanBot does not delete images." Because I went to look at the image to see what exactly the problem was and the image had already been deleted, without giving me any chance to review the image in question and see what the problem is? JesseG 17:44, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely certain. Only a few people on Wikipedia have the ability to delete images, and OrphanBot isn't one of them. In this case, the deletion log indicates that it was deleted by CLW. --Carnildo 22:20, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
I am pretty sure the problem here is that orphanbot has not been running recently (due to a rewrite). So even though the image had been tagged as missing information for a week you only received the automated warning message a short while before it was due to be deleted. It is not CLW's fault you did not know about the upcoming deletion. This would not be a problem if you correctly tagged the image in the first place. Alternativley if you had a watch on the file you would have noticed when the warning tag was put on it. If the image is yours you can re-upload it, otherwise it should have had a claim of fair use. --Martyman-(talk) 03:34, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Very nice. Thanks for the vote at RfA. I was responding here because I feel sorry for Carnildo having to respond to so many questions on his user page about the indispesable job his bot does. I do not feel I have been out of line at all in my previous comment to you. I explained why I thought the problem had occured and what might have been done to abvoid it. The number of untagged images on wikipedia is astronomical. Going through them and either correctly tagging them or marking them as lacking this info is huge job that I and others at Wikipedia:Untagged images have taken on. I do not feel it is fair of you to go lashing out at people who are just trying to clear up a (legal) mess other users have made. --Martyman-(talk) 04:08, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

- And I might make it very clear that I was not aware of any message you have posted to CLW's page. I was responding to your questions at Carnildo page. --Martyman-(talk) 04:09, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I really think I deserve an apology and the withdrawral of your vote at my RfA. You are totaly out of line in suggesting my explanation of how this missunderstanding might of occurred is out of place and somehow intruding on a private conversation. This is a collaborative forum, and if you are not willing to accept posts from users you have not previously given permission to post on your talk page, then I think it is you who is in the wrong. --Martyman-(talk) 04:24, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- What would you like to change about that?
- I hope you can help me with this, and that I don't have to make formal requests for mediation or arbitration under Wikipedia policies. I think that from the moment Martyman first posted to my talk page that he has been nothing but arrogant, condescending, and hostile towards me, and that he is trying to excuse that as being "helpful." And I felt that my concerns about his candidacy for adminship are valid, as is my opposition to his candidacy.
- If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?

[edit] Comments by others
I am happy for some feedback from the mediators here as I believe I have done nothing at all wrong. Jesster79 has for some reason assumed bad faith in a helpful message I left on their talk page. They are the one who has responded aggressively to some perceived slight of mine in joining in on a conversation without asking first. They have voted negatively on my RfA with no good reason and are threatening to take the matter to official mediation. All over something as insignificant as a single well meaning message. --Martyman-(talk) 05:31, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
