[edit] Mediation Cabal Case Request
- Request made by: Ciaran H 00:24, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
- Where is the issue taking place?
- Talk:Middle man (computer program)
- Who's involved?
- Me and PhaseDMA.
- What's going on?
- Some time ago, I noticed that Middle man was an article about an AIM plugin called "middle_man", although it is linked from pages as if it was the alternative well-known meaning of somebody representing a company - probably a salesperson. I moved the article to Middle man (computer program) and edited the original page to be a page on the meaning on the phrase, with a link to the moved page.
- Later, PhaseDMA started a discussion on the talk page with his views. I was only sporadically watching Wikipedia at the time and didn't see this reply. After waiting five days for a reply, he edited the article to restore its previous content. Later, I noticed the change and replied on the talk page - you can see the rest from there.
- As of right now, there doesn't seem to be an agreement on what should happen here, hence why I'm bringing it to the Cabal.
- What would you like to change about that?
- We'd welcome a third opinion on this. I'm of the view that the phrase "middle man" is too well-known (and linked from articles as if it described the phrase) to have it describe something entirely different; PhaseDMA is of the view that this is probably not encyclopedic and is more likely to be a dictionary definition, and hence a candidate for being in Wiktionary. Both views are valid, so we'd appreciate a third opinion.
- If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
- It's probably best to discuss things on the talk page rather than working discreetly. If you need to talk to me alone, leaving a note on my talk page should be fine.
