Talk:Medinge Group

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From VfD:

Medinge Group is described as being "an international think-tank of marketing and branding experts that meets annually at Medinge". Entry is not quite an advertisement but definitey promotional. External link to Site and blog for Beyond Branding, book authored by Medinge Group members. Probably a fine group, but there's nothing here that's notable or encyclopedic enough for the pedia. Hi there, Stombs, please read the Medinge listing first, right above this one! Bishonen 09:15, 14 Aug 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete: As above, so below. To the author: do feel free to stick around. Remember that there are plenty of widely known and important things in Stockholm and Sweden in general that Wikipedia's English site does not have, so please feel free to help build a better encyclopedia by continuing here. • Keep: Medinge seems to be a reasonable, but international expert groups, think-tanks etc. are just what wikipedia helpfully could inform about in a neutral way. -- till we | Talk 11:19, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep; it seems to be a somewhat notable think-tank in its field, and the writings coming out of the group mean it's liekly to get referenced & linked to in future articles on related subjects. It seems reasonable to have an entry identifying them, and perhaps discussing what their viewpoint may be. -FZ 16:12, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Me again (I presume I've voted by listing the entry). "Think-tank" isn't an appellation you're awarded, or qualify for. It's a term usually associated with politics or economics in a larger sense, but anybody can call themselves by it. I don't mean that to sound dismissive, I don't know anything about this group except what they say about themselves on their websites: that they're a "branding think-tank". That sounds a little more ephemeral to me than being, say, an ideological think-thank. One of the Medinge Group's slogans is "Promote yourself wherever you go." Fine, but I just don't think Wikipedia should be one of the venues for it. One of the first sentences we see when we start editing here is "Please don't create a page to promote yourself." ( To prevent misunderstanding: no, I don't think the editor who created this page, Stombs, did it to promote himself or Medinge Group.) But I'm done on this subject, I'm sure it is not the most non-notable one still out there. Bishonen 20:18, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)
    • Hi Bishonen: You are right: it was definitely not self-promotional. I am related to one person there but I'm not part of this field. I got there by surfing and thinking that this would be useful to Wikipedia. As to 'think-tank', what I've heard is that it is one given there's a shift from economics as a branch of commerce toward marketing. I didn't see that slogan, and it's an unfortunate one in this context. I'll refrain from voting for now and let the locals decide on what's best. Stombs 14:45, Aug 19, 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. It's an important article to have and is NPOV. Rronline 11:26, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep and mark substub. I've heard of them. They're a major branding consultancy. Google throws out tons of links and press releases. Deepak 21:35, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
