[edit] desperate housewives dissing philippine doctors

if you didn't hear about it yet, desperate housewives dissed doctors from the phillipines by having the character of teri hatcher say the line to the effect of 'I hope you didnt graduate from med school in the Philippines'. This was just said in tonight's (9/30/07) show. I am outraged by this, Filipino doctors are not to be portrayed as such at all. You should do something about it! I'm not watching that show ever again. I seldom do anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.98.81 (talk) 02:12, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Is there data on the quality of doctors from the Philipines vs US and other places?

It seems to me premature to condemn Desperate Housewives for a comment that has not yet been refuted. The character Susan Mayer was merely repeating a stereotype, which can be condemned if it has no basis in fact. It may be that the stated qualifications for doctors from the Philipines is similar to those of the United States, but that doesn't mean the actual doctors end up as good. Different schools obviously differ in their levels of academic rigor.

Are there any unbiased sources of statistics on this? Malpractice rates would be a good start.

In any event, a Controversy section should be added to this page to address this issue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Axel wheeler (talk • contribs) 16:18, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
