Medicon Valley Alliance is the administrative organisation for the Medicon Valley region one of the leading life science clusters in the world.
Medicon Valley Alliance was started as an European Union Interreg II project initiated by Lund and Copenhagen Universities in 1995 as Medicon Valley Academy. Medicon Valley Alliance was founded as a regional Swedish-Danish network organisation with the aim of catalysing integration and development in the Medicon Valley region. The rationale behind the initiative was to stimulate the formation of a cross-border life science region, by promoting local integration and cross-fertilization between industry and academia. The organisation also brands the Medicon Valley region internationally. In 2007 the organization formally changed it's name from Medicon Valley Academy to Medicon Valley Alliance.
The Medicon Valley Alliance organisation includes all the relevant university departments, healthcare organisations, and most of the biotech and meditech related companies and related organisations located in the medicon valley region. Medicon Valley Alliance is a not-for-profit organisation financed by members and managed by a board of directors with a secretariat located in Copenhagen, Denmark and in the university town of Lund in Skåne, Sweden.
