Medersa Bou Inania (Fes)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Medersa Bou Inania in Fes, Morocco, is a medersa founded by Abu Inan Faris. It has the same name and the same founder as the Medersa Bou Inania in Meknes.

Because of the unreligious reputation of Abu Inan Faris, with over 300 sons and a tendency to murder all his opponens atrociously, the religious leaders of the Karaouine Mosque advised him to build his Medersa on the garbage dump of the city[1]. The medersa became one of the most important religious places of Fes and Morocco, gaining the status of Grand Mosque.

The decoration is very extensive, covering all walls and ceilings. The medersa is one of the few religious places in Morocco that is accessible to non-Islamic tourists.
