Talk:Mecklenburg County, North Carolina

Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.
[edit] County Seat
Pineville is not the county seat of Mecklenburg. Charlotte is the county seat. The administrative units of the county are in Charlotte. Every listing that I could find had Charlotte as the County Seat. Why did this page change it to Pineville?
This is correct. Charlotte-Mecklenburg is all local govenment cars, buildings, pamphlets, etc. Who ever put Pineville has not been to Pineville. It is nothing more than a town in the SW corner of Mecklenburg County.
[edit] Township discussion
The section on townships shows a misunderstanding of the legal meaning and use of township in North Carolina. Townships still effectively exist, even if they have been annexed by a municipality. They are used for a variety of purposes including Census records and in drawing voting precinct boundaries. They can also be important in interpreting historical land records. While the current text of this section is misleading, it might be better if it were deleted entirely as not essential to the entry. Several comments scattered throughout this article betray a preoccupation with annexation issues that is not really relevant to an encyclopedia entry.Ftjrwrites 19:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
