[edit] Release dates of Pups' SST albums
Does anyone know the dates of the Pups' SST albums or of their major label stuff? --Anon.
Not offhand, but the SST website (www.sstsuperstore.com) probably has the SST dates.
http://www.allmusic.com does a half-decent job at listing release years for records. Or did you nead the day and month too? -- Paul Drye
No idea on all of the exact dates, but an interesting piece of great 80s indy music trivia is that Meat Puppets 2, Replacements Let it Be and I believe Zen Arcade by Husker Du were all released on the same day, which is like April of 1984. Banner day in music, I would say. Minutemen Double Nickels came out right about the exact same time as well.
[edit] cover band?
were they really a cover band, or did the author intend to say that this is how they started? I've always thought the puppets had an extremely unique sound, and i cerrtainly have heard nothing to imply they were covering other punk artists. If they really were a cover band, could someone possibly add a section elaborating on where they got their music form? Honestly though, i just don't believe it. 172.150.177.151 07:33, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Cover band
Seriously, who keeps reverting the article? The Meat Puppets BEGAN by playing covers of popular punk rock artists.
[edit] To call the Meat Puppets a "cover band" is inaccurate
While we did play other people's songs when we first got together, the Kirkwoods and I never played out as a cover band. We played two parties when we were first starting, but that was before we formed the Meat Puppets. By the time of our debut gig, in Tucson in the summer of 1980, we were doing original material. We never billed ourselves as a "punk rock cover band" and we were never known as a "punk rock cover band" throughout our fifteen year career, or beyond. This characaterization is false, and reflects only the author's attachement to the phrase. It has no basis in fact. - Derrick Bostrom

I'm sick and tired of your edits that do not make any sense. You brand people "vandals" when they disagree with you and threaten to dispute cases as such. Your former revert frenzy where you continuously reverted a paragraph, in which the band was catagorized as a cover band, which was totally incorrect, demonstrates your absurd approach to Wikipedia. You seem to have have a strange attactment to some of the content, no matter how incorrect and flawed they might be. This leads me to conclude that you seem to be more bent on simply "getting it your way" rather than discussing simply facts openly and being reasonable. Referring to your discussion site, it seems as the Meat Puppets article is not the only victim of this absurd behavior. Note, that this is not an attack on you, Alex101, but rather an attempt to establish dialogue, and as such, I feel it is necessary to openly state what I think your problems are. Furthermore, the attempts I have made to contact you via your talk page has been ignored.
- And this is time for you to stay off of this page, 83.88.137.34. I'm getting sick and tired of you removing my additions off this page. Don't you just hate me, 83.88.137.34? I just can't stand you! Alex 101 14:31, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Right Alex101. If it had been your way, the Meat Puppets would still be described as a "punk rock cover band." I take the liberty of removing any additions you, or anyone else, make that are incorrect and/or confusing. Notice how I have not touched any of the work you have done by Wikifying the albums or some of your other small additions. Do you realize how little sense you make when you write: "Although, the band may not reform and tour again in the future, especially when Cris is ever released from prison"? Re-word that sentence and fit it in better with the rest of the entry and I won't have any objections. As it stands now it debases the quality of the rest of the article.
-
- I already did re-word that sentence. Now, do you believe me? Alex 101 23:54, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- I'm asking you to re-word the sentence so it becomes easier to understand. As it stands, it sounds awkward and obtuse.

- How long are you going to keep this up, 83.88.137.34? Reverting my changes on this article, how long are you going to keep this up? Do you ever listen to me? Like I tell you to "stop reverting my changes" or "go elesewhere" what part of that don't you even understand? You see, this is why shouldn't post Wikipedia AT ALL, because you are vandal and a troll! And if you continue reverting what I did, I have no choice but to ask a moderator to have you permanently banned from here. For the last time, PLEASE stay the hell off of this page FROM NOW ON! - Alex, you are absolutely welcome to bring a moderator into this. The reverts I have done have been justified. Please note that several other people have also noticed the problem surrounding your writing style for this entry. Like I said before, I am going to keep reverting or editing changes you, or anyone else make, that are problematic. I clearly stated the reasons as to why I kept reverting the changes you did, and you blindly reverted them back without attempts to fix the issues I stated. Notice how this exact same thing happened when you kept on insisting that the Meat Puppets were a "punk rock cover band."

[edit] Members in infobox
It seems kind of wonky to have Tim Alexander listed as a member in the band infobox, and not Derrick Bostrom, given that Bostrom's a founding member and on approx a donzen albums and Alexander hasn't (if I get this straight) recorded anything (and perhaps not even played with the band yet). I don't know much about the band infobox format, but perhaps other fields are appropriate, to include Bostrum. Pete.Hurd 21:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Serious renovation needed
This article screams of POV and original research. Just an example:
"Their early works (the In A Car EP and Meat Puppets LP) were wholeheartedly punk, with vocals so feral in their delivery they were often indecipherable, but ultimately humorous and ingenious once discovered. The musicianship was mostly thrash, yet the songs were tinged with a subtle, haunting element like that of a long abandoned ghost town."
I bolded the particularly offensive sections. I don't know who's responsible for this (that Alex fella had a lot of attention drawn to him above for questionable edits though), but it needs to be changed. I'll try and get to it soon but anyone else is more than welcome. ;) --Major Organ 03:07, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
