The MID covers a wide range of measuring instruments including gas, water and electricity Meters.

The Measuring instruments directive has been published on 30th April 2004 in the Official Journal of the EU, but not applied until after 30th October 2006 and there will be a 10 year long transition period. National implementations of the new legislation are currently in the works.
