Mealhada (pron. IPA: [miɐ'ʎadɐ]) is a city and a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 110.7 km² and a total population of 21,282 inhabitants, and 17,043 electors (2006). The city itself has a population of 5.000.[1]
The municipality is composed of 8 parishes, and is located in the District of Aveiro,in Bairrada land.It is included in the Coimbra Metropolitan Area.The city of Coimbra is about 15 km.
The present Mayor is Carlos Alberto Costa Cabral, elected by the Socialist Party.
The municipal holiday is Ascension Day.
