[edit] Projects underway
- The first is the construction of the district's 8th elementary school, Prairie View, on the Five Mile Prairie in order to relieve overcrowding in the district's current 7 elementary schools. The school is currently open and occupied, and is finishing minor items.
- The second major project is constructing Mountainside Middle School, a replacement for Mead Middle School. The existing building is more than 90 years old, and has reached the end of its useful life. The new school will not be built on the same site, but rather a few miles north behind Colbert Elementary. The fate of the existing building has not been decided yet, though it will likely be demolished. Construction of the Mountainside Middle School started in October 2006, and is expected to wrap up in time for the 2008-2009 school year.
