I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! --Zoz (t) 18:03, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
If you want to move a page, please use the move button. Cut&paste moves are generally a bad idea, because they don't preserve the page history. Thanks for your understanding. --Zoz (t) 18:03, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Photos
See WP:COPYREQ for this process. If you need any help, drop me a line. Cheers, Zoz (t) 13:32, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well it depends on how you want to use that photo. I you want to add an external link to the article which points to their photo, then according to their website, it's fine. However, if you want that image to appear on WP (i.e. if you want to upload it to have it displayed in an article), then permission to use is not enough. That's because Wikipedia itself states all its material may be used by anyone, for any purpose, and that includes modification, redistribution, etc. Compare this to their statement: "These photos may not otherwise be reproduced, distributed, cropped, resized, or otherwise altered without the written permission of the photographer." So you'll "have to contact the photographer (the copyright holder) of the photo" and ask them to release their photo under a free license, preferably GDFL. You can find a boilerplate text for requesting permission here. Hope this helps. --Zoz (t) 12:56, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Photo's
Hi - You are not following correct procedures with the photos and seem to not fully understand the concepts involved. First off, you can't upload "fair use" photo's to Wikicommons, which is why those photos have been tagged for deletion as copyright violations. Second, even if they were fair use, you have provided no rationale for it - please read the instructions on how to document fair use photos. This is a complex and difficult process and with a high-profile article like this it needs to be done with no uncertainty. -- Stbalbach 14:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Also left messages on the John Karr talk page about this. -- Stbalbach 14:41, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re: GDFL
Sorry for not replying for so long, I was busy in real life. So I suppose you got an e-mail saying OK to release the images under the GDFL? If that's the case, you should forward both your request and the answer received to permissions AT wikimedia DOT org, and add {{confirmation}} to the talk page. I think you should add {{GFDL}} to the image description page, link the source of the photo and name the author. --Zoz (t) 12:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:John mark karr.jpg
Hi, the image at Image:John mark karr.jpg is listed as fair use. As such, it can be used on the John Mark Karr page, but not on the Jon Benet Ramsey page. I have removed it from there. User:Zoe|(talk) 02:30, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] John Mark Karr
A user really shouldn't be deleting verifiable references. Have you discussed it with him? User:Zoe|(talk) 01:54, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Blocking
If you go to your User Contributions page then click on Block Log, you'll see that you've never been blocked by this name. It might be collateral damage in that the admin blocked another using sharing the same IP address you were using. That's a shame, but unfortunately, it's a well-known and problematic situation that the developers are trying to work out. In the meantime, if it happens again, follow the instructions on the block message to send an email to the Unblock message board, and somebody there will probably be able to help you. Whenever you're blocked, be sure to include the entire message that you're receiving, it generally gives information like "autoblocked", which shows that it is a collateral damage situation. Sorry you were blocked, I hope that doesn't crop up again. User:Zoe|(talk) 18:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Nothing any of us on the English Wikipedia can do on the Commons. You might contact the unblock list at http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/unblock-en-l, but again, that's just for the English 'pedia, I have no idea what to do about Commons. User:Zoe|(talk) 19:32, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Is the image on Commons blocked or deleted? If not, then it's useable here. User:Zoe|(talk) 20:19, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Commons
Mdoc, I moved your comment onto WarX's talk page and they unblocked you. [1]. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 22:51, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- No worries, Mdoc, but I really didn't do much. Looking at the log, WarX seems to consider it was his/her error so hopefully things will be okay for you over there now. Maybe in future it would be good to leave those kinds of comments and warnings on your talk page for a little while before you remove them because I think blanking can easily be misunderstood (it can happen here, too). Just a thought. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 14:05, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, okay. You seem to be operating under some false beliefs. Your user space belongs to the community, not to you. You will end up having problems here, as well, if you take the position that you appeared to express on my talk page. Ignoring a person (admin or not) who queries the copyright status of text you post or files you upload is a really bad move. Blanking legitimate warnings on your talk page can end with you being blocked for vandalism or disruption. And yes, I'm talking about blanking warnings on your own page. In fact, the offical vandalism policy states, "users generally are permitted to remove and archive comments at their discretion, except in cases of legitimate warnings, which they are generally prohibited from removing". I'm going to leave it there, but my unsolicited help is to advise you, as a new user, to read up on our policies and guidelines. Good luck, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 20:26, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- No one owns their user space. It's there to help build the encyclopedia, and if you want to help with that, you're welcome to. It's better to get another page like MySpace in addition, so that there you can do what you like. I hope that helps. Tyrenius 01:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

No problems, Mdoc. I realised you were new-ish which is why I thought I should fill you in. I would have felt really bad if I hadn't said anything and the Commons incident happened here too. I have noticed you on Keith Green and John Mark Karr and you've been doing a good job. Please feel free to drop by my talk page if you ever need any help or assistance and I will do my best to help or, at the least, point you in the direction of someone who can. Welcome to Wiki and I hope you enjoy contributing. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:43, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, Michael. :) It's always nice to be able to put a name to the guy behind the username! Sarah Ewart (Talk) 20:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] GFDL
GFDL can't be revoked once granted (as long as you can prove that, as you seem to have done). You might like to contact User:Jkelly if you need more help as she does a lot of work with images. Tyrenius 01:06, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright
I would go ahead and remove the images. My understanding is once something is released under GFDL it can't be retracted, but in this case it's really not worth the hassle. I'm sure it would be possible to obtain other images we could use instead. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:03, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey Michael, I was thinking further about the Cessna photo problem and I realised that User:Linuxbeak is in the aviation business. He has uploaded images of other Cessnas and he may have an image of the Cessna 414 or at least be able to suggest we we may get a replacement. He's a lovely guy and I'm sure he'd be happy to help if he could. Just a thought. Best, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 12:01, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
No worries, Michael. Linuxbeak is currently running in the board of trustees election, so he might be a little slow in replying. There is a list of other editors who are also pilots here: [2]. Also, if we can find an image that belongs to the US government, we can use that (work by the US federal govt is in the public domain). I did a quick google image search a couple of days ago to see if I could find anything by the US government but ran out of time. I'll try doing another google search later in the week. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Leonard Ravenhill
Thbere was nothing in the article to indicate that he was notable. I have put the text in User:CambridgeBayWeather/Sandbox (you can copy it over to UserMdoc7/Sandbox while you work on it), if you can find some sources to prove his notability then you could repost the article. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 03:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 'bout time
I just noticed your user page pop up on my watchlist and turn from a red link to blue. Bout time you did something about that! :) Sarah Ewart (Talk) 04:40, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Jobenet4.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Jobenet4.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
