Why are Hughes 500 pics on this page? Simply, because I haven't found any MD 500/520/530 pics already posted on Wikipedia or Wiki Commons. Any pics of these would be welcome, as would clearer pics of the MD 600. Thanks. - BillCJ 17:27, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Heli pics

BillCJ, here are the pics I promised. Sorry they're a litle dull (met-wise not subject-wise!) but, as you can see from the skies, I got rubbish weather everytime I went to Kemble to photograph helicopters. The airfield is about 20 miles from where I live. Just paste the code into any article you wish.

[edit] Civil / Military

Confused by the fact that the miltary version of the 500D (the 500MD Defender) is redirected to the OH-6 and described here. Some of the military customers on the OH-6 page actually have 500MDs and I would have expected them to be here (listing them on the OH-6 page look like they have a version of (or second-hand) US military versions. The redirect pages were in place before this article was created. We do need to decide where that variant should be covered, and be consistent.

We could put all military usage under Hughes H-6, regardless of model, and all civilian usage here, even for ex-military aircraft in civil service. That is the way I've been setting up the Bell huey spin-off pages (UH-1 Iroquois, Bell 204/205, Bell 212, and UH-1n Twin Huey]]). It was initially a bit confusing, but I think it's working out well.

The other way is to handle the Defenders as derivitives of the civil 500D/E, and keep them on this page. The H-6 page is basically set up no for the OH-6/MH-6/AH-6 versions as used by the Army, and a few export versions of those models. Adding the Defenders might not fit very well with the current arragnement there.

I don't really have a problem either way, but we need to pick one. The Defenders have been widely exported, and so deserve better coverage than we have now. I'll be trying to work on that whichever way we go. - BillCJ 18:20, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

The Bell civil/military split can be confusing as most non US customers do not uses the DoD designations. I would suggest that we spin of the Defender on its own - happy to help if there is a concensus. MilborneOne 18:37, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

I suggest that the Incidents section of this article should either be rewritten or removed. As it stands, the section describes one single incident (I've corrected the description based on info from the cited supporting source), while the NTSB database currently lists 153 MD-500 incidents (search here from 1/1/1962 to present). -- Boracay Bill (talk) 07:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Concur. Typically, only notable incidents are included, with notability being demonstrated by the incident having an article of its own. Unless there are really unusual circumstances involved, a 500 crash just isn't going to rise to the level of encyclopedic notability. AKRadecki^Speaketh 16:57, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Under military operators in the United States I changed 'Blackwater USA' to 'Blackwater Worldwide', since that is the company's official name now. MoonLoaf (talk) 05:15, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
