McLennan Community College

McLennan Community College (MCC) is a community college partially funded by the taxpayers of McLennan County, Texas. Located in Waco, Texas, it opened in 1965. It now serves about 8,500 students and has over 600 employees. It is governed by a Board of Trustees elected from single-member districts in the county.

McLennan Community College is located on 200 acres on the north side of town near the Bosque River and Cameron Park. The College also owns Highlander Ranch, a 200 acre horse farm about 5 miles from the main campus. The school boasts many organizations, and athletics. The mascot is a Scottish Highlander; the mens athletes are referred as the Highlanders and the women athletes are the Highlassies. There are Men's basketball, baseball and golf teams. There are Women's basketball, golf, softball and a Nationally Recognized dance team.

Bosque River Stage- An amphitheater located close to the Bosque River. This is an outdoor venue that seats 530 and was renovated in 2001. The stage was expanded and the lighting, sound concessions and venues were updated. During the summer many musical acts come and tickets are sold at a reasonable price to accomdate the community.

It is one of three colleges in Waco along with Baylor University and Texas State Technical College. MCC offers Associate's degrees in both Arts and Science suitable for transfer to senior institutions. The school offers other Associate's degrees in Applied Sciences ranging from healthcare and business to computer information systems. There is also a Law Enforcement and Fire Academy on campus.

The University Center- MCC has many partnerships with 4-year universities to offer bachelor and graduate progams on the MCC campus. The 4-year Universities are resposible for the degree programs, faculty, and the courses are taught by instructors and visiting professors. The courses are set up with a designated time frame so the students can obtain a degree and are offered on the weekends and evenings. Partner Universities include, Tarleton State University, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas Medical Branch and University of South Texas Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.

In 2006, Bill Nye gave a lecture and was criticized for saying contradictions against the bible.

Notable alumni of McLennan Community College include the late 1990s country music group Sons of the Desert.
