McKnight-Westwinds is the northern terminus of the North-East Line (Route 202) of the C-Train light rail system in Calgary, Alberta. It opened on December 15, 2007, but opened to the public for use on December 17, 2007.[1].
The station is located north of the recently constructed interchange at McKnight Boulevard and Métis Trail (Formerly 44th St. NE), south-east from the Calgary International Airport, and is adjacent to the community of Castleridge (east), with the communities of Martindale, Taradale, and Saddleridge to the north. The station will only be the terminus for four years, however, as a further extension of this line to Saddle Ridge (to be completed by 2011) was approved in November 2007 at an expected cost of $110 million.
To be constructed along with the McKnight-Westwinds station, is the Oliver Bowen Maintenance Facility.[2] This facility will be used not only for the maintenance of the fleet, but also have storage space for another 65 LRVs (Light Rail Vehicles). This will help in the storage of the 22 additional LRVs that are planned to be purchased within the current 20 year capital plan.
