McKindless

McKindless is a Scottish bus operator, operating a number of bus routes throughout Glasgow and Lanarkshire. The company is based in Wishaw, but they also own a depot in Parkhead catering for their Glasgow-based vehicles.

McKindless started operate buses and coaches in 1987, to provide school contracts and private hires. Two year later branch out to local buses, because of the Central strike. The first routes operated were:

  • No.68 West Crindledyke - Hamilton
  • No.61 Bonkle - Newarthill
  • No.66 Bonkle - Hamilton

Many of the above service where operated by ex-Highland Scottish front-engined Ford R1114s with Y types and Leyland Nationals. In 1994 the routes and buses were bought by KCB.

Form 1996 Mckindless started a commuter shuttle form Wishaw - Glasgow. and restarted the original routes, and from 1997 service to Cleland No.9, and Lanark No.41 started.

In 2000, the company expanded again by opening a depot in Parkhead, and started operating route with Glasgow - Bishopbriggs - Kirkintilloch.

[edit] Fleet

The McKindless fleet comprises a large variety of relatively old vehicles including the MCW Metrobus double deckers and various single deckers such as Dennis Darts, and Optare Excels. In late 2006 three buses were bought new. Two BMC Falcons and a King Long bus. Their three express services are run with single-deck coaches. Although many of McKindless buses are old, many are in fact low floor buses, able to carry prams and wheelchairs.

Mckindless has also bought 4 ex-Hutchison buses, to be used on local route in Wishaw still in the livery of their previous operator. Mckindless has also bought 3 Alexander Dennis Enviro200 Darts
