This article is about an LRT station in the City of Edmonton, Canada. For other uses of McKernan, see
McKernan (disambiguation).
McKernan/Belgravia Station is an LRT station under construction as part of the Edmonton Transit System's South LRT Expansion Project.[1]. The station, located between the Health Sciences Station and the South Campus Station, will provide service to the neighborhoods of Belgravia and McKernan. The station is on the northwest corner of the intersection of 76 Avenue and 114 Street, and immediately across 114 Street from McKernan Elementary-Junior High School. A pedestrian underpass, included as part of the station design, will allow passengers and other pedestrian traffic to easily cross 114 Street.
Originally, the proposed name for the station was the 76 Avenue Station; both the Belgravia Community League and the McKernan Community League wanted the name to reflect their communities. After much discussion by the McKernan Community League Historian, City Council voted to change the name to McKernan/Belgravia in October 2006.
Both McKernan/Belgravia and South Campus Stations are expected to open on April 26, 2009.[2]
- ^ When complete, the South LRT Expansion project will add approximately 7.5 km of track and five LRT stations, including the now complete Health Sciences Station. All of these stations are located in the city of Edmonton's south side.
