[edit] Re:IJA Divisions
Fair enough - would "Nth Division (Imperial Japanese Army) be an acceptable solution? The parenthetical disambiguation is preferred, and I would like to avoid using initialisms such as "IJA". Carom 05:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I'll move them there instead. Thanks for the input! Carom 05:21, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

- I don't know what the deal is, but there seems to be some sort of technical problem affecting page moves - I'll come back to these in the morning, hopefully everything will be cleared up by then. Carom 05:47, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oyama Iwao
Could you please expand on your edit summary of
- moved Ōyama Iwao to Oyama Iwao: Macrons not to be used in titles ?
in this edit? The WP:MOS-JA no longer makes any distinction between titles and the text of the article when it comes to macrons. Thanks. Neier 21:34, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- I agree, it should not have been moved back. The concern you identify about being difficult to find is precisely what redirects are for (and a redirect was created automatically when I moved the article to the macron version of the title). A user will have no trouble finding this article just because the title contains macrons, even if it is the first letter.-Jefu 01:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- As an example, if you go to Category:Japanese people, you will note that two names are macroned. Ōno Kurobei and Ōtori Keisuke. Non-macronned Ono Kurobei results in a dead link, and a wikipedia search for Ono Kurobei reveals no results. Non-macronned Otori Keisuke only because the current macronned page is a re-direct from the original non-macroned page. Therefore, anyone not familiar with the Japanese language and/or unfamiliar/unable to use macrons in their search will not find Ōno Kurobei. This is why I believe that macrons should be eliminated from the title as well as from the categorization. The alternative is to re-direct every macronned title from a non-macronned version, which exactly what User:Jefu has done, although many users will either not be so diligent, or else will not go to the extra trouble when they create a new article involving a macronned title. If you feel strongly about moving the title of Oyama Iwao back to Ōyama Iwao, I have no objections, but feel that some policy or consensus should be reached for consistency. Although we are in disagreement on the title, WP:MOS-JA is quite clear when in comes to use of macrons in categories, as User:Neier has once kindly pointed out to me. --MChew 01:14, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Gomi Kosuke.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Gomi Kosuke.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tellyaddict 14:30, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

- Since the Pakhtakor Incident occured during Soviet times, when outside reporting was strictly forbidden, and Tashkent was a closed city due to the recent earthquake disaster, contemporary published accounts of the rioting are very sketchy. [edit] Japanese painting
The Barnstar of High Culture | ||
For taking on the challenge of expanding and vastly improving upon Wikipedia's coverage of Japanese painting. Such broad topics demand a lot of work and attention, and this is a crucial step towards improving the 'pedia's currently rather weak coverage of East Asian art topics. LordAmeth 09:21, 18 April 2007 (UTC) |
I don't know if there's some sort of taboo against the same editor handing out multiple awards to the same person, but I think you deserve it for this. The 'pedia's coverage of artistic topics, particularly non-Western topics is rather poor, and these sorts of majorly broad topics, I must admit, rather intimidate me. There's just too much to say, too much to make sure you include, while still being balanced, and I think you've done a fine job. Japanese painting is a page likely to receive a lot of hits, probably just as much as Japanese art or Ukiyo-e, maybe more, and ought to be good. Thanks a lot for that. I kind of wish I'd given you the Chevrons earlier so I could give you the Barnsensu now, but... given your track record, I'm sure you'll be earning a Chevrons soon anyway. Keep up the good work! [edit] Your Japanese cruiser articles
I've noticed that you've written and greatly expanded a number of articles about Japanese cruisers lately. I'm stunned by the quality of the articles and how well-sourced they are right off the bat. Good job! I'm writing to ask if you'd consider using an infobox template for the infoboxes of future articles. Templates allow us to standardize the appearance of all infoboxes and they can be easier to understand than looking at Wiki table syntax. You can read about the one that WikiProject Ships is currently using at Template:Infobox Ship Example and its talk page. If you're not interested in using templates for infoboxes, please don't mind me, and keep up the good work! TomTheHand 21:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I just realized that you've been working on many of these articles over the course of a year and when you created them we didn't have standard infoboxes. I just glanced at the article histories without noticing the years. I'm definitely not asking you to convert previously written articles to some new infobox format.
- I do see that you just wrote the excellent Asama class cruiser article over the course of the past week and a half, and we do have templates specifically for use on class articles, but we're discussing creating a new one and so I don't want to recommend that you use one that might be obsolete in a week!
- Please disregard just about everything I've said so far ;-) Let me start over: You seem to have an interest in ships, and you've done awesome work. Would you care to join us at WikiProject Ships? TomTheHand 21:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Golden Rendezvous, Article name
This article has recently been moved to "(novel)" for no consistent reason. I will not revert this but do please bear in mind that there is no need for Disambiguation name consistency apart from, if it is a novel then if a disambig name is needed then (novel) is what we use. Particularly in that the novel was the original form of the work it is quite sufficient to use "The Golden Rendezvous". The Golden Rendezvous even currently redirects to the novel. Have a look at the relevant pages on article naming and the use of Dab pages. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:26, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, and thus The Golden Rendezvous could have remained in place and then created the new The Golden Rendezvous (film) which is what has happen hundreds of times in similar cicumstances. There is no need even for a full disambig page, just mutual cross references between articles, using perhaps one or more of the {{otheruses}} family of templates. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:15, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Reviewing ja:満州国の国歌, I accept the lyrics of the 1933 anthem as written by Zhen Xiaoxu. However, it's not the same one that was used in the 1932 Olympics. They were two different songs composed by different people. The lyrics of the 1932 song is as follows:

[edit] IJAAF aircraft
Hi MChew and a big thumbs up for all the work you're doing on expanding our coverage of these aircraft. Just a couple of tips, if I may, to iron out a couple of bugs that you seem to have run into here and there:
- If you don't put in the power rating in kW for an engine, the engine specs won't show at all (to convert, multiply hp by .746)
- If you cut out the "eng2" parameters, the specifications section will show an extra word - "each" - after the eng1 specifications. In any case, it's best to leave unused parameters intact in an article, since most people get started with these templates by copying-and-pasting them from another article. By cutting out parameters unused in this article, you're potentially hiding them from other editors who may need them elsewhere.
- Please wiki engines and weapons in the specifications section. We actually have articles on a large number of Japanese engines and aircraft guns; it's very likely that an article exists, and even if one doesn't, redlinks are good - they help us grow.
- If it's not too much trouble, when you've finished a new article, please list it here so that WikiProject Aircraft members can take a look.
- The standard order for the supplementary sections right across Wikipedia is: See also, References, External links. If you've been modelling your articles on some of our older aircraft articles, you may have inadvertently copied an obsolete section order.
- There's a template available to help kick off new aircraft articles in standard format: just type {{subst:aerostart}}and save the page.
Hope that helps! Sorry if I've bombarded you! Cheers --Rlandmann (talk) 03:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Iinuma Sadakichi
Hi, this is a question in regards to your recent edit on Iinuma Sadakichi-- if he was in the Imperial Japanese Army, wouldn't he count as "Japanese military personnel"? Just wanted to make sure if there was some nuance I was missing. Thanks. -Tadakuni (talk) 16:13, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Tadakuni! Are you sure that he served in the Imperial Japanese Army? If so, I deleted the category in error and apologize. However, per the Japanese wikipedia, Iinuma served in the early Meiji government's Ministry of Engineering (Kobusho) from 1872 as a telephone specialist, and later served in the forerunner of the Ministry of Communications. I did not see any mention of military service, but if he was indeed in the army, his period of service must have been quite short.Do you have any other details? --MChew (talk) 07:10, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Some articles that could use your eyes...
Hi, I see you have greatly improved the article on Volunteer Fighting Corps, which I had recently added references to and moved (per this brief discussion). Would you also be able to look at the other two articles listed there (which I have also added references to and moved), as they could do with a lot of help and I'm not 100% sure they are now at the correct title, even if only to sense check what I have done? For reference they are:
- Great Japan Youth Party - pretty unsure about the Theoretical Indoctrination Plan section?
- Yokusan Sonendan - not sure if this is the best title for this article, and I can't verify the war crimes allegation?
Both need the name in Japanese script to be added. Any help to improve these articles (or feedback for my edits) would be much appreciated. regards, ascidian | talk-to-me 20:42, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Akiyama Saneyuki
Hi! Saw your message. According to the ja article Meiji and Keio, Meiji actually started on october 23, 1868 though, legally the Meiji started on January 25, 1968. That's why I moved the article but I'm confused now. What do you think? Oda Mari (talk) 15:46, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm... Emperor Meiji took the throne in January, but the nengo was not officially changed until October... Nitpicking, I would say that since WP:MOS-JA says since the start of the Meiji era, the naming order should change from October 23 1868 births, but I guess the argument could be made either way. Then again, I am biased since I am of the minority opinion and think that ALL Japanese names should be given in Japanese order, i.e. Family name, given name. --MChew (talk) 05:46, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Help to expand articles
Hi again!
Today, as I plod through the list of missing aircraft, I've added entries on two Japanese civil types of the 30s and 40s - the Hitachi T.2 and Hitachi TR.1. Both are pretty obscure, and I haven't been able to find much detail on either of them. They seemed to be right up your alley, so I hope you might be able to flesh them out a little more. If you can find any performance figures for either type (and I hope you can!), you'll need to remove the line of code that says "|perfhide=Y", otherwise the section will remain hidden.
You might also like to check out the missing aircraft lists - there are a few Japanese types still to cover under the main manufacturer types. Once those lists have been completed (late 2009 at current rate of progress), Wikipedia will have become the most comprehensive encyclopedia of aircraft ever published... :) --Rlandmann (talk) 23:33, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the challenge! The aircraft you mention are indeed very obscure, and it may take some time to locate info, but I will see what I can do. --MChew (talk) 05:46, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
