McArthurGlen Group[1] operates designer shopping centres across Europe, partnering with a variety of retailers to bring shoppers discounted quality goods and designer labels. Although previously each outlet carried the branding "McArthurGlen" each outlet rebranded its name to the area it is in followed by "Designer Outlet"; for example, "Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet" is now more used rather than "McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks". It is split into 2 divisions McArthurGlen Designer Outlets and McArthurGlen Luxury Retail[2]. The Luxury Retail division is the full price subsidiary of the group specializing in centres selling luxury goods at full retail prices. They currently operate in Italy as Collezioni providing shopping at major airports. It is a joint venture between the Luxury Retail division and Altagamma, Italy's association of luxury goods companies[3]. The Designer Outlet division is by far the largest sector of the group with sites across Europe, with most in the UK. The first designer outlet to be established by McArthurGlen was Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, which opened in March 1995 and has over 6.7 million visitors each year[4].

[edit] Leasing

McArthurGlen does not control or operate the many brands of retail outlets inside their shopping centres. Individual outlets are leased to different companies and each company has to pay McArthurGlen the leasing fee(s) and/or the rent. The size of each outlet varies and the amount of money McArthurGlen charges is dependant on where the tenant wishes to be situated within the shopping centre.
