Chris Ward prefers not to capitalize his rapper alias - i.e.: mc chris not MC Chris. I cite the line from his song Ten Year Old: "All my fan mail says someday that I'll get signed / mc chris, lowercase, no dots, rewind!", and also his website. Also, mcchris is seen on his website, but just as much as mc chris. -LockeShocke 22:32, Jun 27, 2004 (UTC)

On that note, it seems that he doesn't like capitalizing much of anything. All of the album names and track titles listed on his site are lowercase. Should that be considered the official way to spell them? If so then that should be also be the way they are spelled in the article. Does anyone have a CD so that they can verify how it is worded there? --Kamasutra 16:03, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)
My problem when I got a few of his CDs is that in the CD inserts and cases themselves a good many of the song titles are spelled and capitalized differently. Search4Lancer 00:05, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

that slashdot link at the bottom links to the announcement of the interview, not the interview itself.

[edit] Explicit Lyrics

I removed the bit about his albums being labeled as having explicit lyrics because, frankly, that's not true. He isn't signed to a record label, so he has no obligation to print the explicit lyrics warning on his CDs, so he doesn't. Shralla 07:19, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] His ridiculously high voice

There's no mention of his voice at all in this article.

  • Does anybody know if that's his normal talking voice? It seems like he probably has to work at it, but I've never heard any other voice. —TheMuuj Talk 19:55, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Yeah, that's his normal talking voice. He said so in his One Trick Pony interview in Sep. 2005. -The Hams 01:40, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
    • As far as I've known, it is not his normal voice. I've heard him say that it is not, and I've also heard him talk in his normal voice. Search4Lancer 02:41, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
      • I guess you're right, Lancer. When asked "how did you arrive at your particular vocal style", he said "Just by speaking. There's no style that I sought out to create. It's just what I sound like and I'm unapologetic for it." I think I misinterpreted that as saying that that's his real voice. Whoops. You are a genius, for I am not. You are the reason I am the scum of the Earth. I shame. -The Hams 18:16, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
        • I could see how that statement could go either way. Search4Lancer 15:16, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I saw him perform at The Roxy in Hollywood on 10/6 and that's his real speaking voice - no effects are used. As verification, I also stayed after the show and got to talk to him. --209.77.246.75 20:17, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Right, we're not claiming that any effects are used. We know he can really talk like that. The issue at hand is that it's not his normal, everyday voice. As in, when he calls his momma on the phone, he wouldn't be using that voice. Search4Lancer 22:14, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Oddly enough, if you decrease the pitch by -4.20 semitones, he sounds like a normal person. Deadfones 22:31, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm new to Wiki, but I can confirm that it's not his real voice. I did a show with him and talked with him several hours before and after the event. It is, however, not much different from his real voice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.32.82.136 (talk) 13:53, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

When I met him after the first DMoC show in NYC, but spoke slighty deeper, but he still had the high toned voice. 69.123.33.176 (talk) 23:13, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Unencyclopedic wording

mc chris will have the last laugh is not really encyclopedic. SJCstudent 01:16, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] First album downloadable on site

I wasn't able to find it, but my browser's been acting up, too. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 08:33, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

It's a little elusive, under Media. Check for the "Life's a Bitch" cover in the lower left hand side and click on it - there you go. -Crystalzilla 05 May 2006

[edit] freestyle raps

Summer 2005 mc chris opened for Mindless Self Indulgence in NYC and repeats after the show that he isn't a real rapper because he cannot freestyle. So maybe he can now.

[edit] Article title should be "mc chris", not "Chris Ward (rapper)"

How does someone change the actual title of the article? It's unusual to me that he would be classified by his given name, since not many people would think to search for him in that manner. "mc chris" would be more well-known than "Chris Ward", I would think. -DestradoZero

Nah. "mc chris" redirects to this article so people will find this article with no problem. --ElKevbo 19:47, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I understand that it redirects, but listing him primarily as "Chris Ward (rapper)" would be akin to listing Madonna under her given name and linking "Madonna" to this. It works, but it isn't optimal. --DestradoZero 15:16, 5/17/2006 (CST)
Hmmm...a quick glance at some other articles (Sting, Madonna, and Prince) seems to confirm that you're right that there is a precedence (that we're not following in this article). I don't have a firm opinion one way or the other but would prefer to follow the (seemingly) established precedence. I'd suggest letting this discussion sit for a few days to see if anyone else has any comments, objections, or suggestions. --ElKevbo 20:33, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Can't think of a reason not to move it, will do so now. Dwayne Kirkwood 22:11, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Swapped the pages around, however, Wikipedia seems to be insisting on Mc chris, rather than mc chris, any ideas? Dwayne Kirkwood 22:14, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
That's a technical limitation with the wiki code. You'll just have to put a notice at the top of the article like they on some others like iPod. --ElKevbo 22:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
That's silly of me to tell you how to do it when it's just as easy for both of us if I go ahead and do it. :) --ElKevbo 22:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I've moved it, but my edit summary got truncated. What I meant it to say was that point 2 of Wikipedia:WikiProject Music#Albums, bands, and songs advises against reflexive disambiguation. I'm not sure whether mc chris is a band, though. Tim Ivorson 2006-05-18

That's a good question and I think a good argument could be made for both sides. In the absence of a strong, convincing opinion, I think we should leave it as it is currently. --ElKevbo 20:52, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
"mc chris" is the pseudonym Chris Ward uses for his work in music and television (though he is credited on some shows as Chris Ward), and not the name of a band. I apologize for not doing this a week ago, but personal issues kept me from doing much with Wikipedia in the last few days. --DestradoZero 19:13, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Of course, mc chris is only one person, but what I meant to ask was whether the naming convention for bands extends to solo recording artists. Tim Ivorson 2006-05-25
Yes, generally speaking. In this case, if he's notable for non-musical reasons as well, there might be good cause to make an exception though, but not because he's only one person. Tuf-Kat 22:13, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I hadn't thought about that. He is well-known among adult swim fans for his work on the Williams Street shows, primarily Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021. Although he *is* gaining popularity through his music, I'm almost certain that he is still more well-known for his other works. DestradoZero 15:09, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo

The photo that was just added has an unknown copyright status and will thus be deleted shortly. I didn't see any press photos on his website with clear copyright status for our use. I just shot off an e-mail to his press contact e-mail address to find a photo with appropriate copyright status or release for use on Wikipedia. --ElKevbo 16:22, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I added that photo because it seemed to be purely a press photo, which I thought was covered under fair use. This was my first attempt to add an image. --DestradoZero 17:51, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
No problem! We'll find a good photo we can use if we keep searching and asking. --ElKevbo 18:18, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I've added one that I took of him myself, hopefully it's workable. Crystalzilla 23:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
The picture is indeed a good one, but perhaps we should look for something that doesn't have another person standing right beside him. 08:33, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Aqua Teen Movie

I saw mc chris at a show in NYC during July 06 and he confirmed that there is an Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie which he appears in. He did not say what character he is appearing as, but did say that around Februrary the movie should be out. Would it seem appropriate to change how he's hoping to work with Williams St for the ATHF movie? Badfishstan 23:49, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Badfishstan

See above - "Poorly sourced, potentially libellous material must be removed immediately." You hearing it from him constitutes a poor source. And undocumented, at that. Search4Lancer 01:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I saw a screening of the film in Century City a few months ago and I don't recall hearing his voice at any point. --209.77.246.75 20:18, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

He mentioned the movie at a show in Buffalo and said there was an mc peepants part that was avoiding cuts from the movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmDPeGn5VEE Delegado zero 00:13, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Background Noises

Does anybody think that under the frequent themes we should mention the use of background sounds in alot of his songs? i know that everytime he says something in Fuckin' up my Christmas. When he says "To what with this, its mc chris" you can hear him say word in the background. The same goes for a bunch of other songs. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kage-Lupus (talk • contribs) 03:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] mc chris & nerdcore

It should be noted that mc chris has opened up to the nerdcore scene, so the whole "beef" is beginning to get close to non-existant.

Check out http://www.rhymetorrents.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=2203 for resources and stuff. And here too http://hipsterplease.blogspot.com/2007/02/thats-still-me.html

[edit] BoBisChriS

Mc Chris is in no way affiated with BoBisChriS allthough i do Love his music "it should be called musick because it is so sick...." and would be interested in promoting him in any way possible

[edit] Community Involvement

I added this section, as well as a screenshot from myspace. Good idea? Diffusio 00:59, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New info on next album

I did an interview with chris this past week and he mentioned the name for his next album and that he will be returning to Cartoon Network in 2010 and I added both to the article. mhudson3 00:59, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This may sound odd

in several of his songs hes made references to "...inseminating socks" (ten year old) and "...bust a nugget in a tube sock" (white kids love hip-hop) i was wondering if references to filling socks with man gravy was in any other song and if so, should it be added to the Recurring Elements section? i got the lyrics from here http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/MC-Chris-lyrics/C3B9370C7A007B4848256E8400088F0B Aidan is cool 02:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sample Lyrics section needs removed

The sample lyrics section should be removed. It is very unencyclopedic, as well as the only instance of such on any musical artist's article. All it is is a list of lines random people find amusing or "important" who then add it "just because they can." I'm just as big an mc chris fan as the next guy, and yes, I've been to an mc chris show, but this is completely unnecessary, and goes against the style of just about every other artist and band article I've seen. See also WP:NOT#IINFO. So somebody, give me decent consensus. Search4Lancer 01:15, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Removed per WP:NOT, WP:V, WP:COPYVIO, and lack of objection. Search4Lancer 18:13, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Space Ghost episode

"Baffler Meal" did air on Cartoon Network at least once, in 2004.

--Aalgar 11:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] height?

how tall is mc chris? he mentions being a "half pint" and makes references to how short he is but nothing seems to list his numerical height.

He's 5'5", he makes mention of this in the lyrics of one of his songs (I'll update when I find out which one it is.) Also, I'm 5'5" as well and in the pictures we've taken standing together, we're the same height.

Crystalzilla 23:44, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind, he's confirmed himself as 5'5" in this MySpace post.

Crystalzilla 22:47, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Policy on file sharing

mc chris just posted on his MySpace blog that all of his CDs will no longer be pressed because he prefers his fans to share his music. This should be addressed on the page. http://shoujorobot.com/archival/wiki/offlinemc.png Crystalzilla 03:40, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree this should be addressed. DTGardner 00:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recurring Elements

I'm not so sure that phrases appearing in two songs really counts as a recurring theme. Is there a good reason for this section? Cwp2112 23:50, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't see a good reason for it. If something occurred in a large number of songs than that may be ok but these are mostly 2-song "trends". I think the whole section can go. The trivia is starting to get out of hand as well. DrWarpMind 15:58, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
  • I am on the verge of deleting that entire section. It is unnecessary and frankly not very interesting. Any objections?StorminMormon (talk) 08:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fette's Vette

Just a thought, but it might be worth mentioning the internet phenomenon that 'Fette's Vette' became. It was a wildly popular video clip for quite some time, as well as one of his most popular songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.184.0.147 (talk) 07:02, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Mc-chris-bulletin.png

Image:Mc-chris-bulletin.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] mc chris vs. Nerdcore

I deleted this part of the community involvement as it is not centered around mc chris himself but through a small tie he had made with a genre, and the article is biased in Nerdcore's favor. It's not him interacting with his fan base - it's him disassociating himself with another, and as he is locking himself away from the genre, it shouldn't be on his Wiki.

[edit] Spin Magazine Controversy

This has no sources whatsover. You want to write a fanzine or suck up, do it outside of wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.25.104.43 (talk) 22:35, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Capitalization

Can we settle this capitalization battle once and for all? People, myself included just now, keep changing it and it has become wildly inconsistent on the page. It should either be "mc chris" (seems more correct to me from my knowledge) or "MC Chris" (traditional).

I'll follow either what Chris prefers or evidence establishes as correct.

To me evidence is established by the album covers, following through the upcoming one:

Mhudson3 (talk) 14:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd have to agree that lower case is the appropriate form since, according to the lyrics of his song ten year old it's "mc chris, lower case, no dots". http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Ten-Year-Old-lyrics-MC-Chris/CA48E51A8E1F5AF048256E84000777E9 ERTW (talk) 14:54, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
