[edit] Energy medicine schools

Welcome to Wikipedia! Sorry if deleting your list seemed brutal, but if these schools are businesses then listing them on Wikipedia amounts to advertising, commonly referred to as linkspam. If they aren't businesses, the list still shouldn't be there because Wikipedia is not a collection or database of links, it is an encyclopaedia. I would have a look at What Wikipedia is not. Famousdog (talk) 14:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

The two pages you pointed me to simply aren't great examples of Wikipedia entries. Lists of things are despised by many on Wikipedia, which is supposed to be an open source encyclopedia, not a directory or a search engine. Those pages fall fairly squarely under many of the rules covered by What Wikipedia is not and in all fairness probably should be deleted... However, if an article (say, Volkswagon) is about a company specifically, then it would be fine to add a link to their corporate website, so these guidelines are flexible. I still think that the list of energy medicine schools you provided counts as linkspam in the context of the Energy medicine article. They don't add any additional information about the topic of energy medicine, just point people away from Wikipedia. Famousdog (talk) 14:12, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, did I? Heck, sorry, that was a mistake, I must have inadvertently restored an old version. I only meant to remove the quotation marks from the phrase "alternative medicine". I'll go and fix it now, thanks for pointing that out. Gatoclass (talk) 04:35, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I ran into an edit of yours

and decided to come over and say, "Hello." I can see from the postings above that you are getting to Royal Wikipedia Welcome. Which has been known to beat some into submission (me on occasion) and has made others stronger - hopefully you. Life is supposed to be interesting. Thank you for your thoughts. Often having someone to lean on helps bridge these troubled waters. I am pretty much pulling my photographs out of here. I'd rather switch than fight. But I like the wikiconceipt and . . . I like sausages too. Think I'll have a couple for breakfast. Carptrash (talk) 17:48, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Since you are new here, I would say hang in there, and find your spots

Dear Mbilitatu:

I ran across your note to my good Wiki-friend Carptrash, and I noticed your unease and sense of frustration. Carp is a good fellow who is knowledgeable, and will give you guidance. He helped me, and I was grateful for it.

As a word of advice, I would note that there are articles that have a large following and shared authorship. Some of those are protected by people who think that they are important and have some inner insight, and are proprietary about what they have written and what is changed. You can work the fringe on those articles, but it might be better to not go head-to-head, especially as you are starting.

FWIW, IHMO it's a better strategy to find areas that you are interested in, in lesser known parts of the Wiki universe (sometime just a step away from the article you want to be in, and to work those. You are less likely to get stepped on. This also has the benefitical effect of giving you "history" in Wiki, and somewhat more credibility, I think.

"Don't give up the ship." Best to you. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 19:27, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Stan
