MBC 2 is the first free-to-air channel to show non-stop Hollywood movies 24/7. Movies are subtitled in Arabic in the Middle East and North Africa.

MBC 2 launched on January 12, 2002, and it was formerly known simply as Channel 2. At the time, the channel broadcast not just movies, but as well as various American television programs and series, that is until MBC 4 was launched so that MBC 2 only specialised in movies. MBC 2 has become the first and by far the only free-to-air, non-stop premium movie channel in the world.

MBC 2 has managed to negotiate long-term deals with the top Hollywood studios, securing first-run right and ensuring a steady flow of the top box-office success stories[citation needed]. From the biggest Hollywood spectaculars to modern classics, the all new MBC 2 movie library is packed with A-list entertainment and A-list stars[citation needed]. An example of this is how it was the first channel worldwide to broadcast Babel[citation needed].
