May 2: Teachers' Day in Iran; Flag Day in Poland 1670 – A Royal Charter granted the Hudson's Bay Company a monopoly in the fur trade in Rupert's Land. 1808 – Beginning of the Peninsular War: The people of Madrid rebelled against French occupation of the city. 1829 – Captain Charles Fremantle of the Royal Navy established the Swan River Colony, the first British settlement on the west coast of Australia. 1945 – World War II: General Helmuth Weidling (pictured), commander of the German troops in Berlin, surrendered the city to Soviet forces led by General Georgy Zhukov, ending the Battle of Berlin. 1982 – HMS Conqueror launched three torpedoes and sank ARA General Belgrano during the Falklands War. 1986 – Henri Toivonen died while leading the Tour de Corse rally, resulting in FISA, the sport governing body for motor racing events, banning the powerful and popular Group B rally cars for the following season. This Event does not seem to relate to 2nd May in any way:

• 1829 - After anchoring nearby, Captain Charles Fremantle of the HMS Challenger, declared the Swan River Colony in Australia.

Can the dates be confirmed by anyone? I've not yet removed it from 2nd May.

“During most of his lifetime Bing celebrated May 2, 1904 as his birthdate. After Bing's death in 1977 a Tacoma priest disclosed Roman Catholic Church baptismal records that revealed Bing's actual birthdate. Contemporary newspaper reports of Bing's birth also confirm the date as May 3, 1903:

"The Tacoma Daily News Wednesday, May 6, 1903: "Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Crosby are receiving congratulations on the arrival of a son at their household May 3." Tacoma Daily Ledger, Thursday May 7, 1903: "A little son arrived May 3 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Crosby".”
