[edit] Release dates

Game rankings has a useful page that lists release dates. Jacoplane 16:14, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm wondering how far we should go for including game releases. If we go a month it's going to be a very long list methinks, but if we go a week many important games won't be noted until a week before their intended release. KramarDanIkabu 17:51, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, we could archive after X entries instead of being slaves to the calendar - or we could go bi-weekly. Robovski 00:05, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Robovski

I apologize but I don't quite get your meaning. I also wonder how exactly it would be archived. KramarDanIkabu 01:31, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I misunderstood - my fault. I somehow thought you were refering to how soon items should be archived. I assume an archive is possible as I've seen it on other current event pages, I don't know how it is done as I'm kinda new here. As for what you were actually wanting to talk about, a week is too short for announcements. Maybe a 2 week horizon if a month is going to be too long?
Two weeks looks good, though it will probably look better when we have a longer article to begin with. I think archiving months and stuff is going to be just like on the current events page without a problem. I don't think its necessary to archive game releases in the same way the news is archived but feel free to disagree. KramarDanIkabu 01:08, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New template, USA sales figures

Hope people like the new template, found at Template:Current computer and video games events. You might have noticed that the boxes on the right are now directly editable. Also, I was looking for a source for best selling video games in the US, but couldn't really find an up-to-date one. Anyone? I think we should replace Australia with the US once we have a source. Jacoplane 17:15, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

NPD Data for the US is hard to come by, especially when you consider that giant retailer Wal-Mart doesn't even give out sales data. The only retailer I found that has a best-sellers list was EB Games and I will insert that into the table for now until a better and more consistent source is found. [edit] Encyclopedia material?

I don't mean to dismiss all the effort that you have put into this, but I really don't think up and comming events are the kind of things that belong in an encyclopedia. -- Soupisgoodfood 13:10, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, we also have Current events, Current science and technology events, Current sports events, List of current events articles by region. At the end of every month, you get something like January 2006 in Computer and video games, which is pretty decent for an encyclopedia article IMO. Jacoplane 13:25, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Would it be appropriate for this article's content to also appear in wikinews? Maybe some of the more notable events should, such as E3. ~ ApolloCreed 02:26, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I had been thinking of working together with wikinews people around the time of e3. I've talked to some people on the wikinews irc channel and they seem interested. jacoplane 00:31, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Updates needed

Is there anyone assigned to update this? The release dates stop at two weeks ago while the top-selling games are only for early February. If someone posted a source for the lists that are there right now I'm sure it would be pretty easy to find updated information. I just don't know the best place to find it. --TheKoG (talk|contribs) 15:52, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Assigned, no. I'm the main person who was working on this, well in february anyway. However, I've been busy and haven't had much time to work on it. When I have more time I am going to complete the major news stories of the beginning of march and continue updating the page. However, like any wiki page, anyone is free to update. I was kind of hoping others would have been more active in the time I've been away. ohh well. jacoplane 00:30, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Also, regarding the sources, there is a link on the top right of the page that should have the info you're looking for. jacoplane 00:32, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, there might be a chance that I could update the releases over the weekend. I can't do it over the week because I edit during some free time at work and those gaming sites are blocked by the web filter.  :p --TheKoG (talk|contribs) 14:00, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] E3 notes

I'll be taken notes from various E3 press conferences including the Sony Press Conference scheduled soon. At the moment I am following progress on Square Enix. [1] --Thorpe | talk 21:36, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
