Mayu

Mayu is a Japanese-born singer/songwriter.
Mayu is also a Tamil name used by Sri Lankan Tamils. Mayu is a short form of Mayuran, Mayooran, Mayooresan, Mayura and Mayurathan. Mayu means "Peacock" in Tamil, and is the vehicle of the Hindu God Murugan.

[edit] Childhood
Mayu was born on one of the small islands in Okinawa and grew up in its subtropical climate. From her childhood she loved singing songs and painting pictures and went on to an art university to study the arts and design.

Although she went to Tokyo after graduating, Mayu kept performing with a band as a vocalist/keyboardist. She started doubting this was the direction for her and stopped performing for a while. She spent several years working as an illustrator, and in that time journaling about her introspection.
[edit] Collaboration with Sasaworks
Lately Mayu has been collaborating with Sasaworks and has restarted her career and is once again singing with her siren voice. This project is a collaboration between Mayu and Hayatoshi Sasa. Hayatoshi is a composer, arranger, programmer and also a modern abstract sculptor who received his master in sculpture from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
While creating artworks Hayatoshi Sasa started making music on the PC system using digital audio workstation (DAW) applications. He developed an interest in sound composition and discovered common themes between sound and sculpture construction. When he considered the concept for his music architecture project, he settled on Mayu's voices. Her voice is outworldly; it is cosmopolitan, yet reaches beyond borders. Their encounter marked the beginning of an epoch of making music which has elements of both of pop and high culture.
The concepts and aims of the project are whatever satisfies the artists themselves-- something new, excited, cheerful. They want to express appreciation and pay homage through their music to all of artists/musicians who inspire them by giving so much great music.
In addition to using the current day system of music distribution of hosting and distribution via the internet, the Mayu project actually provides new ways for artists and audiences to connect directly to each other. The Mayu project is exclusively distributed through the internet now, however it will expand to other spheres of activities by degrees. They are expected to launch albums and invite musicians for live performances in the near future.
