Mayo is a village in the Yukon, Canada, along the Silver Trail and the Stewart River. Population was 248 in 2006. It is also the home of the First Nation of Nacho Nyak Dun, whose primary language is Northern Tutchone. Nacho Nyak Dun translates into "big river people". It is serviced by Mayo Airport. It was formerly known as Mayo Landing. A meteorological note: In 1974, The town reported a barometric pressure of 31.530". This is quite high, even for strong Arctic High Pressure Centers. During the Summer months, Mayo is quite hot, in 2006, one day was hotter than Miami, Florida. But it get's very cold during November, December, January, February, and most of March. The only school is J. V. Clark School, which is named after Dr. Clark. It has about 80 students as of 2008, and currently is schooling the famous Yukon Singer Brandi McGinty. Lot's Of Tourists from Alaska & Other Parts of Canada go there every summer.
