Mayerthorpe is a town in the census division 13, central Alberta, Canada. It is located at the intersection of Highway 43 and Cowboy Trail, 120 km (75 mi) north-west from Edmonton.
On March 3, 2005, three officers serving with the Mayerthorpe detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were among four officers killed in the Mayerthorpe Incident.

In 2006, Mayerthorpe had a population of 1,474 living in 636 dwellings, a -6.1% increase from 2001. The town has a land area of 4.78 km² (1.8 sq mi) and a population density of 308.6/km² (799.3/sq mi).[1]

On July 8, 2007 there was a tornado 20 km north of Mayerthorpe at Approx. 5:15 PM (EST).
