Mayarí is a municipality and city in the Holguín Province of Cuba.

The origins of the city date back to 1757,[1] when the first farms were established on the actual location. On January 19, 1879 the city became the seat of the municipality.

The Sierra Cristal National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Sierra Cristal) is partly located in the Mayarí municipality and partly in neighboring Sagua de Tánamo.[4] Other attractions include Cayo Saetia, a cay located noth of Mayarí and the Bay of Nipe.

The name of the town figures in the famous song of the 1940s, "Voy para Mayari" by Compay Segundo.

In 2004, the municipality of Mayarí had a population of 105,505.[3] With a total area of 1,307 km² (504.6 sq mi),[2] it has a population density of 80.7/km² (209/sq mi).

The municipality is divided into the barrios of Barajagua, Birán, Cabonico, Cajimaya, Chavaleta Norte, Chavaleta Sur, Guayabo, Juan Vicente, Mateo Sánchez, Punta de Tabaco, Río Frío, Sae-Tia, San Gregario Norte, San Gregorio Sur and Santa Isabel.[1]
