May Wong (メイ・ウォン Mei Won?) is a fictional character of the anime series Kaleido Star. She is voiced by Mai Nakahara in the Japanese version, by Hilary Haag in the English version and Claudia Chavarro in the Spanish version (Latin America).

[edit] Description

May's first appearance is in the second season, when she comes as the most talented of the new recruits of Kaleido Stage, having the greatest marks in the audition. She openly challenges Sora Naegino 's position, claiming it's Sora's fault that their common idol Layla Hamilton was injured and couldn't perform in the Kaleido Stage anymore. A tense rivalry helps both to become better performers; the extremely competitive May thinks of herself as superior, but also admires new Kaleido Stage star Leon Oswald, and wants to be his partner.

May gains the upper hand due to her other talent: ice-skating, in whch she's so versed that she's been nicknamed "ice fairy". That ability lets her become Leon's partner in Dracula, as Dracula's love intrest Mina Murray. During a performance, however, Leon suddenly drops May, dislocating her shoulder and allowing Sora a clear chance to obtain the spot to the Circus Festival.

May is devastated, but after a talk with her ex-ice skating teacher Meryl, she is determined to not give up and re-start all over again. Therefore, wanting to regain her place as Leon's partner, she invents a one arm trick called Demon Spiral, which allows her to perform spins without using her injured arm. With this act, she is chosen to become Leon's partner and eventually wins the Festival with him. Meanwhile, her struggle to come back to stardom from zero and a series of revelation coming from Layla makes May a better person, as well as a better rival and friend to Sora, able to make her react when she's down.

May has a knack for creating elaborate names, not only for her acrobatic maneuvers, but also for simple actions like opening doors or taking food. Some of these phrases: "Double door, open!", "Elevator, shut!" or her own stunts: "Niagara Diving", "Wonder Arrow", etc. She also believes strongly in Feng-Shui and is a great cook. She is also the eldest daughter in a very numerous family, having four little brothers and a little sister who all look up at her.
