May Hill Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The May Hill Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1 mile at Doncaster Racecourse during the St. Leger meeting in September.
It was first run in 1976 and has twice been won by subsequent British Classic winners. Midway Lady went on to win both the 1,000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks in 1986, while Reams of Verse won the latter race in 1997. The most recent participant to achieve similar success is Speciosa, third in 2005 and winner of the following year's 1,000 Guineas.
The race was promoted to Group 2 status in 2003 having been previously contested at Group 3 level. Henry Cecil has trained the winner on twelve occasions, with Formulate (1978), Bright Crocus (1982) and Ever Genial (1984) in addition to those shown below.
