[edit] Q.s about websites for Jacques Plante

I just noticed Ealdgyth's questions on the FAC, about some of the websites used as references. I'm pretty certain I can reference everything back to a book (including a couple we haven't used yet), so I'll look into it. All of those websites are certainly good enough for external links; do you know if some of them are being used on other articles? I have to be out for the evening but will do the work on my return. Risker (talk) 21:18, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, they're better than those websites. I used them to reduce the number of Plante, R., pg. XX refs. I'll tell Ealdgyth that we're working on it and it might take a bit of time. Maxim(talk) 23:48, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
If its books on hockey you need, I also got a few. Some have reference to Plante in them, so I can help out if at all needed. Can even get them up within a day or so, too. Kaiser matias (talk) 03:59, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay, okay. I just got in from the black tie thing I had to go to for work - I guarantee I would much rather have been plugging in the refs. Let me get the kettle going, the books are right here. I know all those things are in the various written references I have on hand because they matched my memory when preparing the article. Risker (talk) 04:03, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Finally done. I have re-cited several of the refs from the Plante book using other books, so it doesn't look quite as though we were completely dependent on it, although the early life section is largely from there regardless. Added a couple of RS web-cites (another HHOF page, and one from the Montreal Canadiens website), and have managed to eliminate all the refs from sites that Ealdgyth questioned. If you could take a look tomorrow just to make sure I haven't missed a duplicate, I'd appreciate it. Risker (talk) 05:46, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry...

I didn't get around to writing FU rationales for two of the images you restored for me. Can you please do it again?

[edit] APIpopups

Noticed in #twinkle you seemed to have an issue. From your last contributions at that moment I deduced that it must have been with reverting :D. So I tested it myself, and it seems I accidently messed up the query to retrieve the revision information. I have now remedied this and it should work again. P.S. Hi, Maxim. A few months ago, you deleted Image:Mousecar.jpg because it did not provide a fair use rationale for the article in which it appeared. I would ask you to undelete this image, as I can easily add a fair use rationale, and I cannot seem to find another image of this subject. Thank you. Powers T 17:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Maurice Richard

I see you did a great job with the Jacques Plante article. I hope you could take a look at the Maurice Richard article as well. It has some good content, but is awkwardly worded and flows very poorly. Flibirigit (talk) 16:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Looks similar to what I started with Plante. I might do it later, but I feel exhausted right now and I'm not committing to any new projects right now. Maxim(talk) 01:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Comments on RyRy5's talk page

Well Maxim, a ban is a pretty good idea, seeing as he didn't do anything for more than 3 days (constructively). But a block isn't a good idea, because he didn't exactly break any "WikiLaws" (policies). Basketball110Talk 02:19, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Betacommand 2

This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above. The remedies decided by the Arbitration Committee, viewable here, instruct Betacommand with regards to the operation of BetacommandBot, including placement of notifications and civility in replying to concerns raised about its operation. Betacommand is urged to be significantly more responsive to good-faith questions from users whose images he tags and either to respond directly to such questions, and also to develop an "opt-out" list for BetacommandBot without imposing conditions on its use.

All editors are advised that periodic review of images and other media to ensure their compliance with the non-free content criteria may be necessary for policy, ethical, and sometimes legal reasons, and are invited to participate in policy discussions concerning this and related areas. Editors are cautioned not to be abusive toward or make personal attacks against participants, including bot operators, engaged in this work. The community is also urged to re-examine our policies and practices for reviewing, tagging, and where necessary deleting images in light of experience gained since the policies and practices were previously developed, including the disputes underlying this case. The Committee listed five specific points in the specific remedy that they believe any review should attempt to cover.

The Committee expects that the disputes and disruption underlying this case will cease as a result of this decision. In the event of non-compliance or a continued pattern of disputes, further review by the Committee may be sought after a reasonable time. In such a review, the Committee may impose appropriate sanctions including but not limited to the revocation of any user's privilege to use automated tools such as bots and scripts, revocation of other privileges, topic bans, civility restrictions, or any other remedies needed to end the disruption. However, please note that nothing in this paragraph restricts the authority of administrators to take appropriate action to deal with any disruptive incidents that may occur.

On behalf of the Arbitration Committee, Daniel (talk) 12:38, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Signpost report (for the 20th)

Hey Maxim, here are the questions for this week's report in the Signpost.

  1. Can you describe what the project is? What is its history? Any aims and objectives?
  2. I'm a newbie wanting to help out at the project, what is there for me to do, or what's the policy on welcoming newer members?
  3. How is the project different from others?
  4. Do you feel that the project is your main focus of activity when it comes to article writing?
  5. A quite small project, do you feel that you are in an informal 'co-ordinator'?
  6. Does the Project have any weak points?
  7. What's your overall opinion on the project? Has it helped you in any way, for example?

Rudget (review) 19:57, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

No matter, the project has lost out on its slot. The report will now be covering the BRC. Rudget (review) 16:17, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I hate to say I agree with Maxim, but I do. The politics of this place can be oppressive. Hell, I've heard of soap operas that aren't as bad as this place, so I can't really fault you for leaving for good if you do. But, maybe, in a few months, if you decide to, you could return like User:Yomangan did. Being an admin means having to deal with all the goofs, loons, and nutjobs we get, and, well, just being an editor, which is what most of us would prefer to be anyway, can and generally is a lot more rewarding. If you'd want to return as just a regular editor at some time in the future, without having to deal with all the weirds we get, I for one would be more than happy to deal with any of the loons you'd be facing for you if you just sent me some notes to that effect. I'm more than a bit of a loon myself (claiming to be from Mars and all), so I'm probably kinda immune to the lunacy I haven't already contracted. John Carter (talk) 19:22, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah man, all that drama is on the administrative side. Just ignore all that crap and focus on editing. We could surely continue to use you over at the hockey project. -Djsasso (talk) 19:32, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Maxim, you'll be missed. I hope you can come back and ignore the drama; I've found that jumping ship to some of the other projects (like Wikiquote) helps me deal with crap on Wikipedia. EVula // talk // // 19:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Maxim, don't you dare quit; take a break if you must, but don't quit. Think of the number of clashes I've had over diacritics & yet I chose to stick around. GoodDay (talk) 20:11, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
I must say of all the admins retiring you have to be the biggest loss out there, but I must also admit that your frustation is based on something that has also been troubling me lately; the ammount of ridiculous drama and gaming of the system is on a increase and the attempts to stop these have been met with senseless criticism or frivolous complaints of sysop abuse, it has become really unberable. Regardless of what choice you ultimately take I wish you godspeed. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:31, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of systems

Hi, you deleted the list of systems yesterday because: expired WP:PROD; Reason given: This article should be in Wikipedia space, not in main space, as it's a list of Wikipedia articles rather than encyclopedic content. using TW

Now I run the WikiProject Systems, I created that list, and I missed the WP:PROD because, I have been on a seven days holiday.

Instead of this deletion I would like to have the content of this list and his history moved to Wikipedia:WikiProject Systems/List of systems in the Wikipedia space, because:

  • this is already stated in the given reason.
  • this list is essential to the WikiProject Systems
  • I put a lot of work in it and don't have a back up from that list.
