[edit] Wikimania 2008/Conference of the Americas
Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania.
As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [2].
For more information about the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas see http://www.cota-atlanta.org and our wiki http://www.cota-atlanta.org/wiki.
If you do not wish to receive further notices about the COTA please remove your name from our notify list. --Cspurrier 18:10, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Purdue rankings
You can do what ever you want, Wikipedia always does, but your rankings are nonsense. The source listed clearly had each area and engineering school ranking as a whole at 6th overall- current standings, by the source, and reconfirmed by Purdue's own website as such. That is a fact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.142.236.23 (talk) 14:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- The source that you listed is some blog; my source is Purdue's website and the 2008 U.S. News & World report rankings here. The source clearly lists the Purdue College of Engineering overall rankings as 9th and 12th for undergrad and grad, respectively. I don't think it can be any more straightforward than that. MaxVeers 15:04, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Those US News rankings just changed now, they weren't that way recently before. Also, the listed source is not a blog, but a ranking system of engineering schools from all across the US which is also a valid reference- US News isn't the one and only official standard to rank schools- it just is the one source that pop culture wants to look up to. Also, you metion nothing about Purdue's pharmacy school which is just as highly ranked as its engineering and business school. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.141.156.230 (talk) 18:18, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about the edit on Purdue about the Black Cultural Center. For some reason I remember removing that statement, apparently I did the opposite and accidently put it back. I agree it is inappropriate. Sorry about the confusion. Jedlink (talk) 16:07, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ZyzzyxRoad.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:ZyzzyxRoad.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

User:AnteaterZot made a comment the "Somebody at Georgia Tech seems to be creating numerous pages on professors and departments without being aware of Wikipedia's notability requirements." I am not from Georgia Tech or the United States. I created her biography because she is a notable cognitive scientist and she pioneered the computer reasoning method called case-based reasoning. I'm afraid I'm too busy right now to take on additional Wikipedia work. Good luck with the article! – Scartol • Tok 12:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:AnakPlaque.jpg
A tag has been placed on Image:AnakPlaque.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:ZyzzyxRoad.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:ZyzzyxRoad.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:04, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
