Maxim Healthcare Services, a subsidiary of Allegis Group, is headquartered in Columbia, Maryland. As a privately held medical staffing company, Maxim Healthcare Services was founded in 1988 as MEDCALL Medical Staffing. President Brian Wynne opened the first office in Towson, Maryland, and the following year, Maxim began to expand, opening offices in Orlando, Florida; Springfield, New Jersey; and Silver Spring, Maryland.
Under the name MEDCALL, Maxim serviced the Nursing Home Industry almost exclusively at first, but soon began to staff hospitals, clinics, schools, and assisted living facilities as well. This growth continued into 1992, when MEDCALL acquired NSI, a California homecare and staffing company. As MEDCALL continued to expand across the country, trademark issues led to a name change, and in the spring of 1993, the company became known as Maxim Healthcare Services.
Today, Maxim Healthcare Services has three primary service lines, Maxim Homecare, Maxim Health Systems, and Maxim Staffing Solutions, which oversee 18 divisions. In 2007, Maxim had 3,294 internal and 60,000 external employees working in over 400 locations in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
