Max Shreck

Max Shreck is one of the three main antagonists in the film Batman Returns, played by Christopher Walken. A corrupt millionaire businessman, he has been developing plans for a new power plant, that will secretly be absorbing energy from Gotham City rather than providing it. The deranged Penguin discovers the toxic waste Max dumped in his rancid sewer home, as well as the dismembered body of his former business partner, and blackmails Shreck into helping him integrate back into society.
Max also murders his secretary, Selina Kyle, after she discovers his shady dealings, effectively turning her into Catwoman as a group of neighborhood strays revive her corpse. She eventually kills her former employer amidst the sewers for revenge, electrocuting him with a tazer she stole from one of The Penguin's henchmen.
Despite being generally portrayed as slimy, odious and cowardly, Max does show one act of selflessness in the story. When The Penguin crashes a Mayoral fancy dress party, revealing his plans to murder the first born sons of Gotham, Max sacrifices himself to save his own child, Chip.
