The Max Planck Institute for Iron Research GmbH is a research institute of the Max Planck Society located in Düsseldorf. The institute was founded as Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Iron Research in Aachen 1917 and moved 1921 to Düsseldorf.

The International Max Planck Research School for Surface and Interface Engineering in Advanced Materials is a graduate program offering a Ph.D. The school is run in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research and the Ruhr University in Bochum.
