[edit] About Max

Max arrived in Emmerdale in early 2005, approximately one year after the introduction of the rest of his family.

[edit] Differences with his family

Max was seen by many as the black sheep of his family and was, like elder brother Jimmy, a lot less hard-headed than a "typical King". He originally did not work for King & Sons like his brothers. Instead of working for his livelihood, his father Tom simply provided him with money. Max went on an around-the-world trip and came to Emmerdale hoping his dad would give him more money. Instead, Tom told him that for once, he had to work instead of being spoiled. Max had trained as a vet, and so started work for Paddy Kirk. However, in late 2005 he joined his father's company after helping Tom to obtain some land, by abusing his position as a vet to poison some farm animals.

[edit] Donna's feelings for him

It was revealed on the day of Donna Windsor-Dingle's wedding to Marlon Dingle (this was after Max's death) that in fact Donna had grown feelings for Max. Marlon was gutted by this revelation but they did end up getting married in their double wedding shared with her mum Viv Hope and Bob Hope.

After having been bullied into poisoning the Briggs family's calves by his father, guilty Max decided to leave the village in October 2005, sick of his family's chicanery. He and Robert Sugden were going to leave Emmerdale but Robert's brother Andy got into a fight with Robert. Max decided he didn't want to go with Robert and got into Andy's land rover. Robert drove straight at them, causing Max to grab the steering wheel and send the rover off the road and through a brick wall. Petrified Max was trapped in the Land Rover and was killed instantly when it exploded, just weeks shy of his 26th birthday. Since the tragedy, Tom has always partially blamed himself and the amount of pressure he put upon poor Max for the horrific death of his youngest child.
