[edit] Your edit summary usage
Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. [edit] AfD nomination of David Howe (claimant to King of Mann)
An editor has nominated David Howe (claimant to King of Mann), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Howe (claimant to King of Mann) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Guthrie's Memorial
This point on the Snaefell mountain course or Mountain Course is preceed by the 26th Milestone and the next following point on the course is Guthrie's Bridge or the 27th Milestone as the Mountain Course runs clockwise. The title of the course is Snaefell Mountain Course or Mountain Course rather than Isle of Man TT Course as there has been more than one 'course' and also the racing for cars predates the races for motor-cycles.
With the point on the course at the 11th Milestone the name Drinkwaters Bend has fallen into partial disuse. The course distance is not 11.00 miles and the photo shows that TT marker board some distance before the metal milestone. The original 13th milestone marker on the primary A2 road is granite and the content of the metal milestone is unknown and maybe a type of cast iron and both markers still exsist at the site. The new map show parish borders and the metal milestone marker is within the parish of German and this can be seen from the photo as the parish boundary marker can be seen in the background. Also the position on the map is also inaccurate and with Guthrie's Memorial the point is actually several miles from its actual position. Perhaps you would like to correct this as with other points on the Snaefell mountain course. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 11thmilestone (talk • contribs) 17:37, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 11th Milestone/TT Course Template Box.
This point on the Snaefell mountain course or Mountain Course is preceed by the Cronk-y-Voddy and the next following point on the course is Handleys Corner. The title of the course is Snaefell Mountain Course or Mountain Course rather than Isle of Man TT Course as there has been more than one 'course' and also the Tourist Trophy racing on the Isle of Man for cars predates the races for motor-cycles.
This article refers to a distinctive S-Bend on the Snaefell Mountain Course on the boundary of the German/Michael Parishes on the Castletown to Ramsey primary A3 Road in the Isle of Man. The present photo of TT Mountain Course Marker Board shown is not at the site of the 11th Milestone and is opposite Cronk Bane Farm. As the article states the present 11th Milestone marker post or 11th Milestone is presently sited at Cronk-y-Voddy. The previous position of this marker post was sited some distance from the current position of the marker board and before the S-bend. The Garrow type metal milestone is actually the 13th milestone on the A2 Road and it appears that all milestones are numbered running from south to north as Castletown was the old capital of the the Isle of Man. The 13th milestone is on the exit of the S-bend and just beyond this is the Michael parish boundary and also a granite 13th milestone road marker. Also from research, I belive the fatal accident to Ben Drinkwater occured between Cronk Bane farm and the old postion of the 11th milestone marker and before the S-bend.
Also the position on the map is also inaccurate. Perhaps you would like to correct this as with other points on the Snaefell mountain course and use a better map that already exsists. Would you alter the title of the Template Box as I have been unable to do so. I would include more photos for this and other parts of the TT course but unabele to do so beacuse of the editing policy. Also the position on the map is also inaccurate. Perhaps you would like to correct this as with other points on the Snaefell mountain course and use a better map that already exsists. [edit] Keppel Gate/Template TT Course
This point on the Snaefell mountain course or Mountain Course is preceed by the 33rd Milestone and the next following point on the course is Kates Cottage. The title of the course is Snaefell Mountain Course or Mountain Course rather than Isle of Man TT Course as there has been more than one 'course' and also the Tourist Trophy racing on the Isle of Man for cars predates the races for motor-cycles.

[edit] Lord Mayor of London
I see no problem with moving the main article to Lord Mayor of the City of London, but it seems to me very unhelpful to change the words Lord Mayor of London to Lord Mayor of the City of London wherever they appear correctly in our historical articles. The redirect does the trick. Xn4 00:55, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. Quite aside from WP:R#NOTBROKEN it introduces historical inaccuracies. Dick Whittington was never Lord Mayor of the City of London since that title didn't exist until half a millennium after his death. Yomanganitalk 10:21, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I've started a discussion at WT:WikiProject London, please take a look at it, it's my understanding of the current position (and an attempt to centralise the discussion). cheers Kbthompson (talk) 18:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Isle of Man - Coat of Arms.svg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Isle of Man - Coat of Arms.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:13, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Israel Cycling Federation
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Israel Cycling Federation, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Israel Cycling Federation. Rockfang (talk) 02:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Logo of the UVP-FPC.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logo of the UVP-FPC.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 01:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Polly Pipe
Hi there, was there a reason or source to your edits to the Graham Farmer & Graham Farmer Freeway articles? AFAIK, being a local in Perth, it has nothing to do with Polyethylene products, just a word play on his extremely well known nickname. If his nickname was Dolly we'd probably call it Dolly's Ditch. The-Pope (talk) 00:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Or a certain less flattering name for the Swan Bells. That being said, the discussion should be in the talk page of the article, not in edit summaries or decidedly unhelpful housekeeping tags. Orderinchaos 00:02, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bculogo.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Bculogo.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 23:35, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Department for Transport.svg
Thanks for uploading Image:Department for Transport.svg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
