The Mauritius Fody (Italic text foudia rubra) can easily be confused with the Madagascar Fody as for the non-experienced eye they look the same. The Mauritian Fody is slightly smaller in size and have a very strong vermillion red head and a spot of the same red at the lower part of the back.Visible when the wings are slightly moved apart the body. Whereas the Madagascar Fody, being slightly bigger in size have the head, upper torso and the lower part of the body of a bright red. The Madagascar Fody is common.
