Is this really so newsworthy that it warrants placement on the main page?

Well, I'd say the presidential election of a sovereign state does merit SOME importance...Unless you think only SOME countries matter...Inkan1969 21:33, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Sure it merits some importance; however, an election in which less than one million votes were cast does not seem like a pressing matter. Of course, that doesn't apply to everything. It's not a question of some countries "mattering" and others not. It just doesn't seem like an effective use of main page space. --Swattie 23:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
And perhaps you believe that a provincial election is?--Thomas.macmillan 00:44, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
This Mauritanian election is historic in that it ended a military dictatorship, and it was the first election in Mauritania in many decades that was considered free. I think this election should be noted for its historic importance. And Thomas has a point in that the Quebec election would not seem as historic, but is included. I've also seen included elections from various stable European nations whose results do not have much significance outside the countries' borders.Inkan1969 00:54, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Why isn't there map to display it's location, that seems pathetically obvious.
