Maurice Richard (Quebec politician)

Maurice Richard is a politician in Quebec, Canada, a two-term Member of the National Assembly of Quebec and the current Mayor of Bécancour, Centre-du-Québec. [1]

He was born on September 22, 1946 in Sainte-Angèle-de-Laval, Centre-du-Québec and owned a grocery store.

Richard served as City Councillor from 1971 to 1976 and Mayor from 1976 to 1985 in Bécancour. He came out in the 1970s.[2]

He ran as the Liberal candidate to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 1985 election in the district of Nicolet and won against Parti Québécois incumbent Yves Beaumier. He was re-elected in the 1989, but was defeated in 1994 elections.

From 1987 until his defeat, Richard chaired the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Committee.

Richard was returned as Mayor of Bécancour in 1995. He was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2005.
