Maureen Furniss

Maureen Ruth Furniss[1] is an writer, animation historian[2], animation theorist[3], critic, professor, and president of the Society for Animation Studies.[4] Furniss served as a professor at the California Institute of Arts.[5], Savannah College of Art and Design.[6][7], University of Southern California[8], and Chapman University.[9][10]

Furniss attended San Diego State University, studied "Telecommunications and Film," received a bachelor's degree in 1983 and a master's degree in 1987.[7] In 1994 she received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from University of Southern California in 1994 using the dissertation "Things of the Spirit: A Study of Abstract Film."[1][5][9]

She is the founding editor of Animation Journal[1][6], a peer-reviewed scholarly journal about animation.[8][11]
