Maungatapu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Maungatapu mountain is a mountain in New Zealand. The mountain is included in both Tasman and Marlborough regions. The mountain is 1014 meters high [1]. The name translates to "sacred mountain" in the Māori language [2]. The mountain was the location of the infamous Maungatapu murders.
[edit] Uses
The Maungatapu is the main route for electrical power lines from Nelson to Marlborough [3]. The mountain has a rough track which links the Pelorus Bridge with the Maitai Valley. This is used for mountain biking, 4WD driving, and motorbikes. For normal cars the track is impassable.
