Maua is a town in the Eastern Province of Kenya. It is the capital of Meru North District (also known as Nyambene district).

Maua hosts a municipal council and headquarters Igembe Central, one of 15 administrative divisions in the district.

Maua municipality has a population of 40,820, of whom 9,763 are classified as urban [1].

Maua is located on the eastern slopes of Nyambeni Hills and west of Meru National Park. Meru, the nearest major town, is located 40 kilometres west of Maua. Currently Maua town is no longer the headquarters of meru north rather it is Nyambene district meru north was split into two districts i.e Tigania district and Nyambene district the headquarters of Tigania district are at Urru, an administrative centre 5 kilometres away from Kianjai town.
