Leeds United Squad Injuries
Can I ask you to stop removing the injuries from the current squad section on the Leeds United page. According to this I "... can add any related info.... " to this and injuries are relevant as to whether they can play at the present time or not. There is no mention as to anything this cannot be used for. I could understand your removal of the information if I had caused vandalism yet this information is legitimate and relevant to their current squad status. --Chappy84 12:16, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Order Of Squad templates on players pages
Hi, I've looked at both this and this yet I can find nothing even on the subject of why country squad templates should come above club squad templates on player pages as you keep on altering these to. Surely the squad that they are currently part of should be at the top of the list which most of the time means the club template. This is especially relevant with Gary Kelly and Neil Sullivan as neither will be members of their national squads again yet are current members of the Leeds squad. Surely people are more likely going to the pages for club info than national team in previous competitions info. The only time I can see reason for the national template to be above the club one is when a competition such as this years world cup is currently taking place. --Chappy84 10:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- It is a general thing for national templates to come above. Look at all other World Cup players, they mostly have the national template above. -- Mattythewhite 14:48, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Mattythewhite, I completely agree with Chappy84 on this, as I've mentioned to you before... although you ignored me last time. The reason why all other WC players have national templates above them is because you pedantically edit the articles to make that the case. It makes far more sense to have the squad templates in chronological order, with the most recent at the top... with "current" templates being most recent of all. Robwingfield (talk) 15:00, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh.. I honestly think the older templates should be on top, going down in chronological order that way. -- Mattythewhite 15:03, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Obviously... but why? Surely the most recent squad should be the first presented... then if the reader wants to look at more historic information, they can scroll down. Maybe it's worth doing some sort of poll at the WikiProject on Football so that's it's a community decision, rather than just a three way thing. Robwingfield (talk) 23:52, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

James Tomkins
Does exist, and does indeed have Squad Number 30. http://www.kumb.com/0506_squad.php?id=James%20Tomkins . Unfortunately the official website is about as much use as a chocolate teapot and is notorious for not including any number of details (most notably the complete absence of the entire Reserve side). If you contact the club, or read the West Ham fanzine, they will inform (and show) the full list of registered players and their numbers, of which Tomkins is one. The West Ham page specifically says "Squad" and does not define whether that is first team or otherwise (or else why would Stech be included). It's unhelpful to simply state "rv vandalism" when amending something that isn't a malicious edit, or "vandalism".--Koncorde 13:28, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Expansion of WP:A-League
Hi Mattythewhite,
Just thought I'd let you know there is currently a proposal to expand WikiProject A-League to include all areas of football/soccer in Australia, including the NSL, A-League, Socceroos, state leagues and more. A more formal proposal page can be found here. Please indicate whether you support the idea or not at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject A-League, and also add your 2c about what the new project should be called. Cheers! – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:16, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Pointless edits
Again, please stop making pointless edits, like this and this. Spacing out content in an article is a perfectly valid thing to do in order to see the different types of content, in this case, separating category tags from stub tags. I assume you agree that the edits were pointless as again you failed to make edit summaries, something else that's frowned upon. Surely you have better things to do with your time? Why not do something constructive instead? Robwingfield (talk) 18:02, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Arsenal reserve players in first team squad
Well, I added the new players into the first-team squad in Arsenal F.C. so I think yes. :) My basic rule about including players in the first team squad is this: If the club officially gives them a number and a listing in the squad on their website [1], then Wikipedia should follow suit, which is what I have done. Even if they have not (yet) played a first team game (like O'Ceaurill or Simpson), they still count. That's also been my rule when considering reserve or youth players for AfDs in the past - it's consistent and easily verifiable.
There is actually one exception, which is Jose Antonio Reyes, who is not listed on the Arsenal site, but his transfer status was confirmed as a loan by Real Madrid separately, and that's explained in the footnote attached to his name. Hope this helps, cheers. Qwghlm 15:55, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Wait up - none of the players who you have just created are actually listed in the first-team squad page here. Where have you got the numbers from and why have you created them? Qwghlm 18:27, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- Re: "if they were to be called up" - Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. I would hold off and wait until if/when they actually get called up properly. Qwghlm 18:39, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Yes - I said given a number and listed in the first-team squad - which they are not. They have provisional numbers and are only listed on the reserve squad for the moment. None of the four players - Hoyte, Efrem, Barazite and Merida have - been called up even as substitutes for a first-team competitive match, so until they do their first-team squad status is speculative. Qwghlm 18:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

-
- I've had a bit of a think and I've decided not to nominate (or renominate) any of them for deletion (yet), but I'll wait until Arsenal's Carling Cup campaign is over - simply because I can't be arsed to recreate them or go through WP:DRV if they do make an appearance this season. But if any of the players you are added don't make the cut I'll nominate them for deletion once the competition is over. Qwghlm 21:07, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Fran Merida
Please do not repost previously-deleted material. This is considered vandalism and can lead to you being blocked from editing for a period of time. (aeropagitica) 22:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- It seems that both Merida and Hoyte are being ruthlessly deleted at the moment. I've taken them off the Arsenal squad and nav template for now to prevent further recreation. If you wish to keep reposting them then it is probably a good idea to take them to deletion review, but I fear you won't get a favourable response. I think it would be best to leave it for now and wait until either player has got a proper first-team call-up before doing so. Qwghlm 08:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Obichelsea.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. 0 template
Thought I'd mention the Template:0, since you update infobox stats a lot. You can use it in infoboxes as an invisible leading zero. Thus
- 100 (50)
- 50 (5)
- 1 (0)
using
* 100 (50) * {{0}}50 (5) * {{0}}{{0}}1 (0)
can become
- 100 (50)
- 50 (5)
- 1 (0)
Which looks better, I reckon. Laters. sʟυмɢυм • т • c 20:29, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- All the footballers listed Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:0 are the ones where I've used the template. I found it when I was using the German wikipedia. I've also started using also using Template:birth date and age in infoboxes.
{{birth date and age|1986|11|1}}
- since it survived tfd. It calculates people's current age. (Obviously!) sʟυмɢυм • т • c 20:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Indent
Me again. I changed your edit to Tom Huddlestone. Normally I don't mind the whole → indenting thing, after all I started doing it, but TH's infobox was far too wide (nearly half the page) before I changed it. I now write 'Loan' after the apps because it doesn't use any extra space, and it is as easy to spot as an indent. Linking of years in generally discouraged, unless part of date formatting. Otherwise, keep up the good work. sʟυмɢυм • т • c 23:54, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Hiya. I reckon Soccerbase is wrong on that one. He wasn't given a squad number at the beginning of the season, and he hasn't played at all since so there's reason to suggest he's been given one. The reason being, I presume, is that he's still a youth team player, and Boothroyd only gave him games last season to rest the squad before the play-offs. Personally, I wouldn't trust Soccerbase on anything other than matches. Transfer wise it's all over the place. I've emailed them a couple of times with sources for things they've got wrong, but they never respond. Cheers, HornetMike 00:49, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Jamie McCarthy nationality
Hi Matthew,
I don't know if you left me a message regarding Jamie's nationality as displayed on the Hamilton Academical page. I have included it below if you did.
I appreciate what you are saying. However, I think Jamie should be classed as Scottish until such time as he represents Ireland. He would then, in a football context, become Irish in the same way Colin Miller (former Hamilton Accies manager) became Canadian.
Is there a set rule on nationality for football players?
Cheers, HamiltonValcea

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article York City F.C. songs, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:York City F.C. songs. Infobox Football biography - position
Hi Matty... just noticed you're editing articles using {{Infobox Football biography}} so that the position parameter is set to "manager" when the person is a player-turned-manager. However, if you look at Template_talk:Infobox_Football_biography#Parameters, you'll see that the parameter is intended to hold the playing position of a footballer. The only parameters that refer to a former player's management career are "manageryears" and "managerclubs". robwingfield «T•C» 12:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Lincoln
Mate, I understand, to an extent, why you altered the Lincoln City squad page to how it was before (ie the loanees out of the squad appeared in a seperate section)...and although this follows protocol to many other squads in wiki, the fact is, these players have squad numbers, at at the current level of playing, are subject to recall, therefore being in the squad at any time when called for. For example, players such as Luke Foster and Gary Birch were recently loaned out to other clubs, however, it would make more sense to leave them in the squad list and note that they are on loan, instead of removing them for a short term basis then reincluding them, because as with the aforementioned players, they have since returned from loan, as the players who are currently out on loan now will do. It saves time for editing, unless you really want to update the list every 1-3 months. --Cintrianex

Infobox appearance stats
I've just realised that I overrode a couple of stats for which you'd included substitute appearances as opposed to starts. I checked the template discussion a while ago and, if I recall, there were thoughts towards just going with the latter. Now, it seems, the consensus is almost split, leaning towards combining the two totals (but possibly 34+5, with the +5 denoting sub appearances). I only concern myself with the appearance stats relating to two clubs, so I'll wait for a definitive decision on the matter before deciding which way to go.
Personally, I'm in favour of listing the sub appearances separately. Combining them gives the impression that the player was a regular in the first team instead of just being a fringe player (the opposite thought of Slumgum) here.
