[edit] The Needles

Hi Mattl. Just moving "The Needles" to The Needles (chalk stacks) and changing it to a disambiguation page may have seemed a good idea. A better idea whould have been to create a page The Needles (disambiguation) (see Wikipedia:Disambiguation) which then referred, as it does now, to the band and the place, and then putting, as I am about to, a pointer at the top of The Needles to point other uses to the disambiguation page. The geographic feature is so well known globally that having people arrive at a disambiguation page instead of the location was not really appropriate. Hope you find this constructive. [edit] King Of The Show

Hi, just letting you know I merged the King Of The Show page you created way back when. Pascal.Tesson 18:22, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

You're very welcome. No I never did see the show. Actually have no idea whatsoever what this show is! I just happened to stumble on King Of the Show because I'm working the categorization backlog. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 01:45, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Craigcrack.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Craigcrack.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 13:03, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template

Hi there! You nominated a template for aspergian wikipedians for deletion, but no such template exists. Perhaps this was a typo? >Radiant< 08:29, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Ah, Category:Aspergian_Wikipedians. Yes, that's a category; if you believe it should be deleted, WP:UCFD is the page to go to. >Radiant< 08:22, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BadVista logo

Hi! Do you happen to have a source supporting the GFDL status of Image:BadVista no littering.png you uploaded? I'd like to vectorize it, but I can't do it if I'm not sure of the license. Thanks! ›mysid () 19:51, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dangerous.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dangerous.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Notability of Dangerous Records

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Dangerous Records, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Dangerous Records seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Dangerous Records, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Guy Blandford

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Guy Blandford, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. tomasz. 12:19, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] gNewSense introduction rewrite

Hi,

I've reverted this change. Articles aren't written from the point of view of their subjects, and an objective appraisal of gNewSense at this point would be that it's an Ubuntu variant. Whether that makes it a "variant of the GNU operating system which uses the Linux kernel" or not, Wikipedia refers to such things as "Linux distributions" pretty consistently, and allowing projects to use their own terminology decreases Wikipedia's consistency and makes it more confusing to casual readers. Chris Cunningham (talk) 10:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, the circular logic again.
Matt, just in case you haven't seen this: The only reason Wikipedia currently mostly refers to GNU/Linux as "Linux" is because Chris here, alone, spent a lot of time last year replacing hundreds of mentions of "GNU/Linux" with "Linux". These are hard to find in his edit history because he mostly used the useless edit summary: "tidying". They were mostly in the summer months plus some up until October. After that he's just done maintenance work, reverting people who write "GNU/Linux".
So, he removes all mentions of "GNU/", and then points at the lack of mentions and says that adding any mentions of "GNU/" is not allowed now because that would spoil internal consistency. Pleas don't fall for it. There are plenty of people who argue that "GNU/Linux" is the correct terminology to be used in Wikipedia, and there are policies that can be cited to argue this too. --Gronky (talk) 21:36, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:BBC Eliminate DRM.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:BBC Eliminate DRM.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:13, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
