[edit] Welcome
Hello Matt, welcome to Wikipedia. You might like to start by reading the tutorial and introducing yourself at the new users page. For ideas of what to put on your user page, see Wikipedia:User page.
If you have any questions, you can ask at the help desk or on my talk page. Two useful tips are that you can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~) and you can preview your changes before you save using the show preview button. You can regularly find new tips on the Community Portal. I look forward to reading your great articles and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. :) Angela. 10:54, Jul 24, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks! :) - MattTM 05:47, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Kevin Rose
I might have been a bit hasty on the last deletion. The anon user version was a straight CV, non-encyclopedic and from someone I've never heard of on TechTV, which I'd also never heard of, although I now realise he is an American, as is the channel. I hadn't noticed the last edit was by a different editor, or I would have waited to see what developed. My apologies, and I'll restore your last edit. jimfbleak 16:42, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome
Hi Matt, welcome to Wikipedia :)
I wanted to let you know - if you have any questions about editing here, you can ask on the help desk or privately on my talk page. Once again, welcome to Wikipedia. →Raul654 19:03, Aug 2, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Sacha
I've left an answer about the many Sacha Baron Cohen articles for you on my talk page. In short, it's better to have one encyclopedic article than one on each character, each show, and each performer, especially when the same information is being replicated in two or three articlees. - Nunh-huh 05:43, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Just because I did something doesn't mean you can't undo it. If you think the character descriptions would be better in the Ali G Show article by all means move them there instead of the Sacha article. I just don't think that we need separated articles for each character. And I would think that a "biography" of Frasier belongs in the program's article and not as a separate article, though the character so bores me I couldn't stand to get involved in that. - Nunh-huh 05:58, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Bruno quote
Hello, I think we might've seen different episodes. I saw the one where the asian lady is talking about how some people in new york have no fashion sense, so in response Bruno says "We should just put them on trains and send them to camps" or the like. Hope this cleared up some confusion.
[edit] RAOK Barnstar
Thanks for consulting me. I actually like this new one very much, so I'm going to leave it as is. I like your Amazing Race contributions, by the way. I watch it every now and then but I'm more of a Big Brother fan. Mike H 04:07, Sep 9, 2004 (UTC)
- I wouldn't know about the pictures. You'd have to ask someone else. I'm sorry. Mike H 04:53, Sep 9, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] PNG %28disambiguation%29
How did you create that article? The last days such strange article show up on the New Pages, and I even made a bug entry of it (see [1]). Maybe you can shed a little light on how such articles can happen. andy 07:36, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Robert Lindsay
I would have done so. However the original page included information about all three individuals. So rather than moving it to one particular article, I split it up in three different articles. If there is a better way to do that, please advise. Yardcock | talk 06:55, Sep 13, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry
I should have explained it to you before I did it. The thing is, I really don't like the way the updated barnstar looks - the smile, I think, is kind of unnatural and funny-looking. I'm sorry. Regards, Neutrality (talk) 21:36, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- Looks great! Thanks! Neutrality (talk) 00:19, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Starman
Hi MattTM - just a quick note. Starman is a Nintendo item, not a Nintendo character. Accordingly, I'll be moving the page shortly. Andre 13:10, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] re: delinking on the Apprentice pages
Thanks for your question on the linking of the Apprentice pages. You are correct that my intention was to require a second step before creating articles for each of the shows' participants. There is currently a debate on the Votes for deletion page for several of the participants who already have articles. Based on the way those votes are currently going, the participant articles are likely to be deemed "non-notable" outside the context of their respective Apprentice show articles.
By the way, I have not voted on those discussion threads. I delinked them because I consider that the more cautious approach. Better to let those test cases (the blue-linked articles) go through the debate. If they are kept, it is easy to restore the links to the other participant names. If they are deleted, we will avoid the potential hurt feelings of having to debate any additional articles that were created in the meantime. Rossami 04:22, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- So, real people are not notable, but every Pokemon, ork and podunk town of 5 people and 3 cows gets an article?--Nelson Ricardo >>Talk<< 04:35, Sep 21, 2004 (UTC)
-
- I should mention that I consider the comparison to non-biographies (fanfiction and small towns) to be a bit of a red herring. 1) We evaluate every deletion nomination on its own merits. 2) Fiction is often easier to verify and keep NPOV than articles about living people. We have a history of difficulty with vanity entries. Rossami
- MattTM, your response is well argued. As I said, I have not chosen to vote in those two debates. I only unlinked as a temporary measure. Since you seem to have an interest in the question of biographies, though, you might want to look at and participate in the discussion at Wikipedia:Criteria for inclusion of biographies and the associated Talk pages. Welcome to Wikipedia. Rossami 04:46, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- The three way discussion has continued some on Nelson Ricardo's Talk page as well. Have a good evening. Rossami
[edit] Raj Bhakta
Hello Matt. Will I undelete Raj Bhakta? Sorry, no. I don't see any reason for that. I'll list all the contestants articles on vfd in a day or two. -- My general advice to you, which you are free to accept or reject as you see fit, is to write for the ages. Fwiw, Wile E. [edit] Question about a page
I haven't been keeping up with the use of the POV check, so i am not yet familiar with the accepted protocol.
It appears that one of the pages i contributed has been declared biased coincident with your visit. The page is Columbine Mine Massacre.
I note that no one has entered any discussion on Columbine Mine Massacre Talk relating to this action.
If you are responsible for this, would you kindly either offer some guidance on what you think is the problem, else undo this action?
The article describes a massacre in which only one side had guns. All the dying occurred on the other side.
Yet there was violence committed by both sides, and the article devotes three sentences to the violence committed by the side without the guns.
So if someone believes that the article takes only one side, might it have been the result of missing this paragraph?
Please explain: what rewriting is envisioned?
thank you.
richard myers
[edit] Deleting other peoples' edits
MattTM, you deleted some relevant information that I added to the entry on the Homeland Security Advisory System. In fact, discussion of the page called for just this kind of information to be added. You called it "opinion". You seem to have an opinion too -- and that opinion is that my facts should be censored from Wikipedia. If you have any actual facts that differ from what I stated, then feel free to put them in. But in the absence of actual facts of your own, leave other peoples' facts alone... see the NPOV entry that says rather than delete other peoples' words, insert more, or edit, to describe all the relevant points of view and attribute them. I have done so in my latest change. - 209.237.225.251
[edit] 3D Monster Maze
I have mixed feelings about your repositioning of the external links. It contradicts the spoiler warning in the sense that some people will want to skip anything below the warning and thus never get to the external links. What do you think? BACbKA 01:16, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding... I am really unsure – actually, I had it your way in one of my previews, and then made it with the spoiler in the end because of the concerns I cited above. However, after thinking a bit more about your edit, I now believe that maybe it is not a big deal of a spoiler at all – all the details are announced on the intro screen anyhow (well, almost all – with the exception of the appeal thing). I'll leave it as is and ask some ZX81 retro fans what they prefer, think it over myself and only change it if I really become convinced that my original design was better. BTW, have you ever played it yourself? BACbKA 01:43, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- hehe... well worth installing one of the ZX81 Emulators, IMHO (could be my nostalgia, but even today I feel a lot of realism in the game, which is astonishing given no sound and the poor graphics available to the developers). BACbKA 02:00, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Green Mountain Club
Thanks for your edits to my first entry!
[edit] Admin vote
Thank you for supporting me in the admin vote. I sincerely appreciate it.
I notice that you were the brains behind the Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar. I've been trying to resurrect the barnstar concept lately, and I think that the RAOK star may be my favorite.
Thanks again, ClockworkTroll 06:21, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Search
Hi Matt. I noticed the minor change you made to my Digital Network Theory page (moved categories from top to bottom of page). That's OK ... I just copied that top-pg place from some other article;-) You may help me with another slight problem : under 'Search' with keywords "network" or "network theory" my page does not appear. Why is that, and can something be done about it, so it does not stay in perpetual anonimity? I did place it in 2 categories (as you noticed), and I put several links elsewhere to it, but somehow no dice. Nico B. 09:14, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] A quick note to say thanks
I just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you again for your support in my request for adminship. It was certainly a wild ride, and I really appreciate you taking some time out to contribute. ClockworkSoul 16:07, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Data-mining
Since you updated Wikipedians by number of edits recently, I have to assume you have found the way to get over the hump I just posted on the Pump, if you don't mind taking a look. Niteowlneils 02:23, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of edits
Salve, MattTM!

[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Zoe7
I have added a "prod" template to the article Zoe7, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:G4techTV.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:G4techTV.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bruno.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Bruno.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 12:46, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Ronnowens.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Ronnowens.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
Replaceable fair use disputed
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECU≈talk 17:52, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Amazing Race logos
The images of the Amazing Race title, fast-forward, roadblock, and detour, are all being used improperly under our fair-use guidelines, so I have tagged them as non-free use disputed. Please correct the uses of these images and craft fair-use rationales for any uses you believe are justified. (ESkog)(Talk) 18:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image tagging for Image:NBC_Apprentice_2_Andy.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:NBC_Apprentice_2_Andy.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bruno.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:19, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Borat.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:2004GOPconventionlogo.png
Thanks for uploading Image:2004GOPconventionlogo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:00, 18 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 21:00, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
