WikiProject World Leaders by year

Thanks for your message about the project. I am going to be putting some effort into the project now and together I think we can safely say the project is active again. Therefore I have removed the project from the inactive category.

I agree coordinating could be useful to make what is a huge task easier. I have created a basic template to put on the talk pages - Template:WikiProject Leaders by year - any improvements you can make would be welcome. If we start gradually putting this template on pages as we edit that page we may get more people actively joining the project. At the moment I am picking easy states from the To do list and then completing those for all years.

Any suggestions you have on how we can coordinate better would be welcome. Davewild 16:37, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

MN KB State (St. Anthony)

You recently wrote that St. Anthony had only been to state three times in its history. I was wondering if you could provide verification of this statement. I know the historical results only list them as having gone to state 3 times, but a.) those are only the Top 6 finishes, and b.) the State meet has been going on since 1979, and we have very little historical information. If you have any information to add, please let me know! Lmeister 17:45, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

In my experience, newspapers (except for maybe the Morrison County Record) are not very good sources when it comes to knowledge bowl. Take for example what happened last year when Staples-Motley qualified for state. The Brainerd Daily Dispatch (or Disgrace, as you will) said it was the first time SM had qualified for state. However, a simple archive search for "staples knowledge bowl state" revealed that they had last gone to state in 1999, a trip that was not billed as their first. What can you say? Nobody cares about KB. I don't know how old or successful the program at St. Anthony is, but it's certainly a very real possibility that you qualified previously. Best bet is to check with an adviser or something. Or email Sue DeNio if you dare.

The fact that the Brainerd paper should hardly be regarded as a publication is not my reason for discounting newspapers as a credible source. But do you believe that the Star Tribune cares enough about KB to keep records of whose been to state how many times, etc.? Your coach is a much more credible source. I guess I'm just somewhat in shock that you had never qualified before, then won two AA titles in three trips. Is it a relatively new program? Or did it just not experience any success in the past? Lmeister 21:36, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Vale, well thanks for clearing that up for me. I can't imagine what it would have been like to have practiced for KB, much less to have had a coach who actually signed us up for tournaments. Lmeister 23:09, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Seeking community input re standardizing baseball roster pages

Hi ... I'm leaving you this note because you recently made edits to one of the Major League Baseball roster pages. Coach articles

You'll notice on some of them I've taken the time to add infoboxes, at least to give it some sort of start. My basic reasoning has been to create the articles just to keep the coaching navboxes (most of which I've created) from being tagged for deletion, with the plan being to go through and expand the articles later. --fuzzy510 07:35, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Category:Duquesne Dukes men's basketball coaches

Howdy! I don't quite undertand the use of {DEFAULTSORT} in this context. I have never seen it used on a category page before. I have been monitoring DEFAULTSORT usage here and thought this usage was interesting. Signed, Confused. (Ref: Template:DEFAULTSORT). Schmiteye 06:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Microstates project

The Southern Europe project has as its express goal providing coverage of all the states of the region, including Macedonia, Slovania, Malta and Cyprus. Actually, it was pretty much created as a "catch-all" to cover all the states of the area, so that content relating to them had some entity interested in them. I also know that several of the extant projects may in time become inactive, and I hope that this project will be a place where the content relating to those states can be maintained in the event those specific projects collapse. However, I personally have no objections to the separate microstates project, other than a slight reservation that there may be comparatively less similarity between for instance Malta and Lichtenstein as microstates specifically than between all the states of a particular region. But I have no objection to supporting the project, and actually am about to sign onto it. John Carter 15:48, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I have always had an interest in microstates and the hobby of micronations. Hopefully i can be of help to this project. Crested Penguin 00:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

European Microstates

Dear Matt, I would firstly like to apologise for my lack of a speedy reply. I was caught up in other matters, and forgot about your message. I like your proposal, and you are talking sense. I am happy to go ahead with what ever you have planned, and I think that European Microstates wikiproject, as well as wikiproject Malta should be successes because of the importance of their focal subjects and scopes. Please send me a message detailing the specifics of your Wikiproject, and I will be delighted to send you my ideas about the Maltese project. I saw your request for an article, the trouble is, i cannot figure out who this is. Do you have any information on this so that an article can be created? //Tecmobowl 04:20, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

No question the guy not having his own website is problematic, the least he could do is start a blog or something :-). That is kind of what I have seen although, you did provide those two links which i had not seen. It's certainly enough to start a stub article on. // Tecmobowl 05:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

GSSE

Hi, I've seen you've done a lot of excellent work on the Games of the Small States of Europe. I was thinking of creating an infobox to insert in each event, with the basic information. Something along the lines of this one [1] for Olympic games. My problem is that although I have considerable experience editing articles I have little experience with template creation. Are you any better? Cheers StephP 21:11, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for getting back. If you can clone the Olympics template, that would be great. I was contemplating on the fields to be included and came up with the following:
Logo
Caption
Host Country
Nations Participating
Athletes participating
Events
Officially opened by
Opening ceremony
Closing ceremony
Official Website
The Olympics had something about the anthem too, but I thought that might not be a feature of every GSSE held. StephP 00:28, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Infobox

Hi, Matt. I see, above, that you've already drafted up the sections you want for the template. It's practically a clone of the {{Olympics infobox}} (excluding the torch and oaths). I don't see why you cannot copy the Olympics template and make the needed adjustments for the GSSE. If you wish (since you're not that comfortable with template coding), I can make a test infobox for you too check and see if it can become "official". Parutakupiu talk || contribs 02:09, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't mind that complicated coding formula. It looks that complex because it has to account for the fact that the Olympics were not celebrated three times (1916, 1940, 1944), but were continuously numbered as if they had been; besides, from 1994, the Winter Olympics stopped being celebrated in the same year as the Summer event and were moved two years later.
This doesn't happen with the GSSE, they've been always celebrated every two years since 1985, so the coding will be different and much simpler ;) Parutakupiu talk || contribs 17:36, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

The article as it was when I deleted it was essentially a press release, it had no sources, no objectivity, and read like an advertisement. You're more than welcome to either make a redirect, or an actual article, as long as it fits wiki standards better than the one I deleted. :) (As for no reason: I think I thought the first text in the article would come through into the deletion summary, which would have been the templates of nn-bio, nn-advert, etc, but apparently not) --Golbez 21:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
