What is disruptive - constant prodding of articles which have been recreated, or constant recreation of articles without demonstrating notability?Garrie 05:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

AfD concerning Coletta

I was just trying to help with that AfD. Livin on prayer someone extends the same courtesy to me, 'cause I'm in the same spot as you, nothing personal. Lots of sunshine down there? This Foster's light for you, keep smiling even if sun is not shining! greg park avenue 22:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

AfD concerning Amir Butler

G'day. I have nothing against ABC radio. The references to Amir in Parliament and ABC Radio were not directly about Amir, but about the views he had which were different to those of the Muslim community. They were therefore not secondary sources about Amir and couldn't be used. I don't think a few incidental (and of course there is a lot of room to argue whether they were incidental) references didn't get Amir over the multiple primary source criteria. However, the Media Watch article directly seeks the views of Amir (rather than using them as a discussion oint), and I see that as justifying notability. I should say, I want Amir to stay in, but I also wanted the page to comply with wiki standards. Cheers. Assize 04:13, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Regina Bird AfD

Hey there, just wanted to point out that I left my comment at the AfD there were two pretty poor references on this article - one from The Age about the winner of BB (yes it was Bird but the article was about "who won") and one from the IMBD - and I could have an entry there if I really wanted.Garrie 22:09, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

  • As per your talk page header my response is here. I could see that the Women's Day article met your criteria but I did not mean to infer that it was not a reasonable criterion - ie no criticism intended by my reference to your point. Have to confess I had not read that magazine article, merely the web-based blurb, but the magazine has very wide circulation so I guess the editors believe its readership still cares and that would make her notable along with swimmers who walk to their weddings in tents, ex-wives of cricketers, .... :-) --Golden Wattle talk 01:15, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Staying around

Discipline may involve limiting yourself to no more than 100 edits a month (you've made 50 and 80 over the last 2 months) - and then shutting off the computer if you reach that? (Just a cheeky suggestion). Matt and I thought we would tackle the Riverina Top importance articles first (Albury started and Griffith to come) but then I think Irrigation in Australia is a good nom. (I note that it wasn't even linked to Riverina Project as yet - but that is now fixed). Finally and seriously - please stay around as much as you can - we need your positive interjection and edits.--VS talk 01:27, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Dear Matilda, thank you for you efforts to build consensus on my RfA. As you know, it was unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience.

I will run again, however I am concerned that I may see your name in the same place, for the same reasons. I would greatly appreciate knowing what I could do to earn your support next time.

If you have anything to contribute by way of improvements or comments, please don’t hesitate to tell me. Kind regards, Dfrg.msc 00:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support and comments at my RfA
Hi GW, It still amazes me that otherwise "anonymous" editors take the time to place !votes and comments on RfAs. Your lovely comment of support brought back memories and drove home one of the reasons for my attempting to gain adminship perfectly. Whilst I would have normally thanked you at the time of you leaving your message, the importance of my not appearing to be canvassing prevented me from so doing. Now that everything has progressed successfully I can finally thank you. I intend to uphold a style of good adminship and will welcome your further comments at any time in the future, even if they are in the form of admonishment. I will be happy to help as an admin wherever and whenever I can --VS talk 23:05, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Ken Ticehurst

Thank you for your comments on my editing of the Ken Ticehurst article, I am only new to wikipedia so still finding my way around and the feedback is good. I must say though that I didn't put the maiden speech "back in", I put it in on July 23 for the first time unless you have found it in the history by another user.

I have a question and not sure where to ask them, hope you can help:- I have read comments from yourself and another user about other content in the article. It has been suggested that both the Committee section and the patron organisations be deleted. In my experience of MPs I have found that this is where their personal interest can trully be seen, the committees they agree to be on and the Associations they represent often tell a bigger story than any Press Releases or speeches. I would have thought that researchers would have found this information interesting.

I was planning on working on all the MPS from the NSW Central Coast and Central Coast related articles in general. It was my intention to include these two items where possible but I don't want to create a future cleanup for someone else. AusBrian 02:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

  • As you may be aware I have taken your advice about the Australian Politics discussion and have raised the Committees/Patron question there. Thank you for your assistance. On another note, I don't mean to be picky but it has been bothering me:- items 1 & 3 that you left in the last message to me have the same timestamps, I didn't reenter the information. AusBrian 13:33, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Being new here I am seeking your advice on this:- As you know I raised the issue of Committees and Patron Associations for parliamentarian's pages on the Australian Politics Discussion page. While there has been a comment on the Patron and I now agree there has been no comment on the committees yet. How long should I leave it:- I have been holding off any other work till I sort out where I have been going wrong, don't want to start creating other MPs if the content is not going to make the grade. For a concensus I have sent this to three people User:Orderinchaos User:Recurring dreams & User:Golden Wattle all of you have guided my Wiki training thus far. AusBrian 06:45, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Kevin Andrews and 'recentism'

The issue with Andrews and his publication record is of concern in his community of peers and academics. Such matters are often not caught up with for many years, but are regarded quite seriously for public officials and academics (as a former Monash VC,caught for plagarism discovered). It therefore reflects upon Andrews' standing. Larryjhs 21:56, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Culcairn- Corowa railway line, New South Wales

Thanks for creating this page- looks good. I've created a lot of the other NSW country ones, and the convention that I've used is that for lines that end at a terminal point, I've named them by the destination, such as Bombala railway line, New South Wales and Murwillumbah railway line, New South Wales etc, and for lines that connect two other lines, I've named acording to the points that they connect on the other lines, such as Molong- Dubbo railway line, New South Wales. Therefore I wonder on your thoughts of renaming this page to Corowa railway line, New South Wales. The Fulch 12:53, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Kevin Andrews

I'm sorry you feel I assumed bad intent; I did not. In fact, it upsets me that you think I would. I simply made a bad choice of word in "false", the pejorative connotations of which escaped me at quarter past one in the morning. To assure you, I was just editing the text as it was, without knowledge of whomever added it, and the reference provided did not support the text. Before I realised the reference was not correct, I actually redrafted the text in an attempt to include it, as as far Australian journalists go, Kelly is fairly noteworthy.

Irrespective of this issue, I do hope you agree that my edit was on-the-whole a good one, going a significant way, in my opinion, to redirect the article from an inappropriate direction.--cj | talk 00:46, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi - could you please name images slightly more specifically when you upload them on wikipedia and give them sharper categories where possible. Fore example Image:2007 0825klklk0019.JPG is I presume Manly (not just my own knowledge, also based on the use of the image on wikipedia and associated caption) - nobody would know from the file name, the category or the description you provided :-( --Golden Wattle talk 23:09, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Gary Nairn

Hi Golden Wattle. Noticed your referencing work on the Gary Nairn article. Most, if not all, of the last three para of the article seem to be to be quite tangential to the subject. Wikipedia policy at WP:NOT#NEWS looks to be be relevant here and I think those paras should probably go before the article becomes a magnet for party hacks (if it hasn't already). What do you think? Gimboid13 08:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I certainly don't disagree that Gary Nairn is notable enough himself but I'm still a bit concerned that some of the contents of the article looks like attempts at point scoring. Gimboid13 19:57, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Jason Clare

Hi, GW. I tend to be a little inflexible about candidate's articles as they nearly always seem to be a forum for POV pushers. Having said that, this one doesn't look too bad (and you are definitely not a POV pusher! :-)) and the references you added has improved it a lot. It almost meets the general notability guideline in WP:N, in which case not meeting WP:BIO would then become moot. If another independent source asserting notability can be found similar to The Australian Higher Ed article I would be happy to change my !vote to weak keep on that basis. On a general note, I can see articles on election candidates becoming more and more of an issue as the election gets closer and some consensus on what is acceptable may be useful. Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 01:14, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing me towards those discussions. Your edit here is almost word for word my opinion as well. I don't think we disagree on the general principle but only on the specific notability of Mr. Clare. I still think his notability beyond mere candidature is marginal but I am willing to be convinced otherwise. Mattinbgn\ talk 02:06, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
As you may see, I too have become convinced by your hard work on this article in adding citations to demonstrate notability, and have changed my opinion to Keep. Thank you, sincerely, for putting so much into the discussion and keeping it respectful and focused on improving the article. My respect for Australian stick-to-it-ive-ness, already large, has gone up a notch, and I've learned once again that every principle merits the occasional exception. Cheers! Aus pronunciation

Hi GW. As for Kyneton, I just keyed off the existing transcription /ˈkɑen.tən/, which according to the provided link has the vowel of wise (phonetically not very different than GA or RP, really), and converted to our generic English transcription, /aɪ/. (That notation is a compromise, by the way, of RP, GA, and Aus; it's intermediate between RP [ʌi] and Aus [ɑe], though in this instance quite close to GA.) There wasn't anything in the existing transcription to make me think this was a special local form, or I would have asked on the talk page. Any of our readers could do this, of course, but many struggle with the basics of the IPA, and converting between dialects might be too much to ask of them. I assume that anyone who is told that Kyneton has the vowel of wise, upon picking up an Australian accent, would be able to pronounce it correctly as [ˈkɑentən], but someone not familiar with Australian probably won't be able to pronounce it like wise if all they're given is /ˈkɑentən/. kwami 01:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Primary Source

The book is published by the school. From what ive been told, that makes it a primary source. Then there is the question about the author... Can you clarify please. Twenty Years 02:57, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

So that clears that part of the issue up. On my google book search here it states By Kenneth Eric Eckersall, Brunswick South Primary School, this to me says that Eckersall is writing the book as a part of or agent of the school, im not too familiar with google books or book terminology etc. This to me just simply suggests that the book is a primary source, hence my comments. Principals

I merely deleted the name of the principal from the lead of the article, where: it was both mentioned in the infobox, and there was a list of principals/headmasters later in the article. Eg: here i removed the name of the principal from the lead, which repeated the information in the list of principals, which both stated she started in late June 2005, this information was repeated for a third time in the infobox. You may well have seen my comments on other talk pages or the noticeboard - I really think the idea is fine if not a bit odd to have crowns when there has been very consistent and steady removal of such insignia from the australian administrative and legal scene over the last two decades - and the whole thing of countitis in my opinion is being such a way of isolating some editors in median range edit counts who may never get around to the ga and fa stages before they drop out of the whole editing process (having known quite a few such persons) - however having said all that - I really think that some of the hack workers need accolades for the backroom stuff sometime - maybe a slouch hat and corks - for being the bloody drovers - who keep the projects alive and moving and who have edit counts or edit histories that arent so oriented towards back slapping - but then I'm not around for pursuing this much further - im off and out for quite a while - but ive said my bit about it anyways - btw like the name changes - hard to keep up! Thanks for your response - I wont be around to see whether the crowned continue their good work or not - three months seems to be an eternity on wikipedia! Have a safe christmas SatuSuro 22:31, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gordon Vuong

Just dropping you a note to let you know that I have nominated Gordon Vuong for deletion after you contested the proposed deletion. The discussion is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gordon Vuong. --Stormie 00:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Tony Abbot Edits

The edits I made to the Tony Abbot pages does not violate the biography of a living person policy in any way, as the dilemna itself was closely documented by the media. Just because the allegations were determined false, does not mean that they shouldn't be a part of his biopgrahy. Again... if your logic were sound, then OJ Simpsons murder charge information shouldn't be included in the wikipedia, because he was proven innocent. Vandalism warning to User_talk:207.138.65.1

This is the vandalism I was talking about. Arbiteroftruth (talk) 03:27, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I had a long day today. As for the warnings I have issued, I will be honest. I have issued Level 4 warnings right off the bat, just to deter vandalism. Most of the time, I issue a Level 3 warning first. I almost never issue the first two warnings, because I have found them to be without teeth. Just to make sure that I don't get the wrong person, I normally issue warnings to people who I can ascertain, with certainty, that they are committing in acts of vandalism.

I do understand that there is a problem with this, and you have expressed your concerns clearly enough, and I am going to change my approach to this matter, right now, and follow the traditional, established procedures. As for your comments, I will not remove them, for they are very valuable to me in general. Thanks for pointing out my mistakes! Arbiteroftruth (talk) 08:13, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

He, he. That's lovely. Unfortunately, I don't own a cat (I grabbed the pic of Wikipedia). Auroranorth (!) 05:01, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

ACOTF is 1967 in Australia

Hi. The name change threw me for a moment. Anyway, you nominated 1967 in Australia for WP:ACOTF, and it's been selected. Please help to improve it in any way you can. A {{todo}} list on the talk page might be a good start, to suggest to other readers what they can do to help. Merry Christmas. --Scott Davis Talk 14:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Thankyou for the Drover's Award!!! I appreciate it, especially since the ACOTF is just about all I've been doing on Wikipedia lately. Sometime, I hope to get back to it in a bit bigger way again. --Scott Davis Talk 10:57, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Media Watch.

It's really just trivia. Liz Jackson returned to Four Corners. It doesn't really tell you anything about MediaWatch. The most recent changeover, sure, but the last three? Eh.

We have not one but two list of hosts immediately following it, why add the unneeded information?

TFA move protection

Hi Matilda, I have reprotected South Australian general election, 2006 as it is tommorrows Featured article. As per Wikipedia:Main Page featured article protection#Move protection, the article is move protected to prevent moves by vandals and by well-meaning editors. It would require many link changes if an article were to be moved. It is assumed that the name is agreed upon because of the various stages of review that it has been through. Regards. Removal of The Digital Entertainment Network Article

Dear Matilda: I do not understand why The Digital Entertainment Network article was deleted. There are plenty of articles about other active companies on Wikipedia. I know you were against it being deleted but it appears that there are numerous individuals on Wikipedia who are guided by their own personal biases rather than by objective information. According to Wikipedia's guidelines any information entered is supposed to be accepted in good faith until proven otherwise but I have found the exact opposite is true with Wikipedia's editors. I would like the article reinstated as we have as much right to have our company information listed as does General Motors.

Dame Joan's racism scandal

Hi Matilda / GoldenWattle. I recently found your post about Dame Joan and replied on the article's talk page.Talk:Joan_Sutherland#Controversy_over_racist_remarks Cheers, Lester 04:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Just a note to say I re-added the Dame Joan passport incident. Hopefully this version is more neutral.Lester 20:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Good work with that second link. I didn't know she said it at an address to the A.C.M. Cheers, Lester 23:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
